This, as well as Chapter VI. 011 the characteristics Of coal-seams, should properly be read by non-geological readers before the accounts of the coal-regions. A chapter on the conditions of success in the coal-trade, one on the combustion Of coal, and one on the iron-ores Of the coal measures, with the latest statistics Of the coal mined in the United States, and in foreign countries, are also added at the close Of the volume.
