The Church at the Turning Points of History (Classic Reprint)
Author: Godfrey Kurth
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9781528360579
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 202
Book Description
Excerpt from The Church at the Turning Points of History This booklet contains the substance of a course of lectures given at the Women's University Extension in Antwerp, during the scholastic year 1897-1898. This explains sufficiently the plan and style of the work. There was question of presenting to an intelligent audience the great lines of a tableau, which must be surveyed at one glance, if one wishes to grasp its vast and striking unity. Friendly critics have asked me to give ref crenees for the statements made. I have not deemed it wise to burden with annotations lectures which aim to present ideas rather than to state facts. As will be seen, I take it for granted that the latter are known to the reader, and I trust that he will take my word for occasional statements of facts with which he may not be familiar. It juxtaposes the divine comedy of Dante Alighieri with the existential musings of Friedrich Nietzsche, the transcendental reflections of Ralph Waldo Emerson with the spiritual allegories of John Bunyan, and the mystic insights of St. Teresa of Ávila with the practical Christianity of Charles M. Sheldon, showcasing an unparalleled range of literary styles and theological perspectives. The contributing authors and editors, drawn from varied epochs and geographies, reflect a rich tapestry of historical, cultural, and intellectual contexts. Figures like Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Leo Tolstoy stand alongside St. Augustine and Martin Luther, exemplifying the anthologys alignment with significant historical and literary movements. This diversity not only illuminates the multifaceted nature of Christian thought but also demonstrates how these varied voices contribute to a deeper, more nuanced understanding of the anthologys central themes. 500 Year Journey
Author: Corey Piper
Publisher: Morgan James Publishing
ISBN: 1636980457
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 276
Book Description
500-Year Journey examines historical and scriptural evidence to identify the date Christ was born, which wasn’t December 25th! For more than two-thousand years, Christians and skeptics have sought the truth of Jesus’ birth—with many looking in the wrong places. One group studied the stars and astrology for answers, to determine what the Magi might have seen, but that only created more questions. Others looked to mathematical calculations and tradition, but mistaken variables led them astray. Both of these approaches have contributed to the modern version of Christmas, but they have also obscured God’s truth. Corey Piper’s 500-Year Journey makes the case that God revealed exactly when the Messiah would be born. The answer is in his Law, foreshadowed with biblical and historical events and confirmed by what the Magi saw. This resource will take readers from the exile in Babylon to the manger in Bethlehem, to a stunning encounter with God’s elaborate plan.
