Simple, yet profoundly satisfying." – Booklist (starred review) At Mommy’s house, Alex has a soft chair. At Daddy’s house, Alex has a rocking chair. In each home, Alex also has a special bedroom and lots of friends to play with. But whether Alex is with Mommy or with Daddy, one thing always stays the same - Alex is loved. The gently reassuring text focuses on what is gained rather than what is lost when parents divorce, while the sensitive illustrations, depicting two unique homes in all their small details, firmly establish Alex’s place in both of them. Two Homes, One Childhood

Two Homes, One Childhood PDF Author: Robert E. Emery Ph.D.
Publisher: Penguin
ISBN: 0698404246
Category : Family & Relationships
Languages : en
Pages : 338

Book Description
A paradigm-shifting model of parenting children in two homes from an internationally recognized expert. A researcher, therapist, and mediator, Robert Emery, Ph.D., details a new approach to sharing custody with children in two homes. Huge numbers of children are affected by separation, divorce, cohabitation breakups, and childbearing outside of marriage. These children have two homes. But their parents have only one chance to protect their childhood. Building on his 2004 book The Truth About Children and Divorce and a strong evidence base, including his own research, Emery explains that a parenting plan that lasts a lifetime is one that grows and changes along with children’s—and families’—developing needs. Parents can and should work together to renegotiate schedules to best meet the changing needs of children from infancy through young adult life. Divided into chapters that address the specific needs of children as they grow up, Emery: • Introduces his Hierarchy of Children’s Needs in Divorce • Provides specific advice for successful parenting, starting with infancy and reaching into emerging adulthood • Advocates for joint custody but notes that children do not count minutes and neither should parents • Highlights that there is only one “side” for parents to take in divorce: the children’s side Himself the father of five children, one from his first marriage, Emery brings a rare combination of personal and professional insight and guidance for every parent raising a child in two homes.

Change the World. Start with the Children

Change the World. Start with the Children PDF Author: William Wasson

Book Description
"Save the World. Start with the Children", is a book detailing the life of Father William Wasson, his philosophy, and how he changed the world. Father Wasson's legacy includes nine homes for abandoned and vulnerable children in Latin America and the Caribbean as well as the only free pediatric hospital in Haiti. This book includes words from Father Wasson himself, his four principles of successfully raising compassionate children, and stories about those who were directly impacted by his unconditional love and support. In 1953, Father Wasson was assigned to a church in Cuernavaca, Mexico called "The Church of the Poor". One night, the church was robbed by a 15-year-old boy who was simply trying to feed himself. Unwilling to press charges, Father Wasson went to the judge on the boy's behalf and requested custody of the child. The boy became the first of over 18,000 children that would be raised in the nine homes of Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH). NPH homes take in vulnerable children with no family or have families unable to care for them, and provide a safe home with food, love, healthcare and support, along with a quality education. Each of the nine homes works to ensure the happiness and wellbeing of every child that walks through the door. Children are raised with their NPH brothers and sisters, not put up for adoption and are encouraged to gain a solid education and use their talents to become leaders in their own countries. The book was a collaboration of people who work with NPH and those who knew Father Wasson. His philosophies for raising his NPH family were documented in 1976 and the book showcases the way these principles affected the NPH children through stories of their ongoing success. ALL proceeds of this book go directly to NPH USA.

Book Description
What image does the word orphanage conjure up in your mind? A sunny scene of carefree children at play in the grounds of a large ivy-clad house? Or a forbidding grey edifice whose cowering inmates were ruled over with a rod of iron by a stern, starched matron? In Children's Homes, Peter Higginbotham explores the history of the institutions in Britain that were used as a substitute for childrens natural homes. From the Tudor times to the present day, this fascinating book answers questions such as: Who founded and ran all these institutions? Who paid for them? Where have they all gone? And what was life like for their inmates? Illustrated throughout, Children's Homes provides an essential, previously overlooked, account of the history of these British institutions.
