Book Description
Excerpt from The Canadian Practitioner and Review, Vol. 37: January to December 1913 Company there are per cent. Of total male deaths and per cent. Of total female deaths due to cancer. In England one man in eleven and one woman in eight, of those living at thirty five years of age, die of cancer. There are 100 deaths due to cancer in women to every 94 due to tuberculosis, and on'the whole, cancer is fast overhauling tuberculosis in all its forms. In the States from 1851 to 1860, pe1 100, 000 of population, cance1 showed 31. 7 and tuberculosis 348. 3. From 1891 to 1900 cancer Showed and tuberculosis 201. Attempts to explain away this increase as an apparent in crease and not a real one are far from convincing. The popu lation of England doubled between 1850 and 1905, but the cancer mortality increased six times. The actual death rate of cancer is far above the known death rate, for out of respect to the family many deaths are filed as due to some secondary cause of death when in reality cancer is the prlmary cause. In the face of such facts regarding the diagnosis of cancer and the 1esults of surgical treatment it is needless to state there is an immense field for palliative measures. The present death rate of cancer is appalling even without any further Increase. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. A History of Canadian Legal Thought

A History of Canadian Legal Thought PDF Author: R.C.B. Risk
Publisher: University of Toronto Press
ISBN: 144265919X
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 336

Book Description
This volume in the Osgoode Society's distinguished series on the history of Canadian law is a collection of the principal essays of Professor Emeritus R.C.B. Risk, one of the pioneers of Canadian legal history and for many years regarded as its foremost authority on the history of Canadian legal thought. Frank Scott, Bora Laskin, W.P.M. Kennedy, John Willis and Edward Blake are among the better known figures whose thinking and writing about law are featured in this collection. But this compilation of the most important essays by a pioneer in Canadian legal history brings to light many other lesser known figures as well, whose writings covered a wide range of topics, from estoppel to the British North America Act to the purpose of legal education. Written over more than two decades, and covering the immediate post-Confederation period to the 1960s, these essays reveal a distinctive Canadian tradition of thinking about the nature and functions of law, one which Risk clearly takes pride in and urges us to celebrate.
