John Brown was fiercely committed to the militant abolitionist cause, a crusade that culminated in Brown’s raid on the Federal armory at Harpers Ferry in 1859 and his subsequent execution. Abraham Browne and his wife, Lydia, were the parents of six children, ca. 1622-1639. The family immigrated to Massachusetts in 1631. He was one of the first settlers of Watertown, Massachusetts. He died in 1650. His grandson, Deacon William Brown (1684-1756), obtained land in the Trapelo district of Waltham, Massachusetts, in 1717. He married twice and was the father of twelve children, 1705- 1730. Descendants listed, chiefly some descendants of his sons, Ebenezer (b. 1705) and Josiah, lived in Massachusetts and elsewhere.
