The Book of Genesis (Yesterday's Classics)

The Book of Genesis (Yesterday's Classics) PDF Author: J. Paterson Smyth
Publisher: Bible for School and Home
ISBN: 9781599154848
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 242

Book Description
The first volume in The Bible for School and Home series, covering the Creation, the Fall, the Flood, the call of Abraham, and the story of Joseph, with Smyth showing at every turn how the individual stories fit into God's overall plan. All eight volumes in The Bible for School and Home series, used in Charlotte Mason's schools, are intended for parents and teachers to use in preparing Bible lessons for the children in their charge. Each of the volumes contains two dozen or more lessons, preceded by the same lengthy introduction to sound teaching practices, a section which is well worth reading. For each lesson, Smyth specifies the Biblical passages to cover, then provides background information you can incorporate in your telling of the story to gain the interest of your children, carefully framed questions you can use to draw their attention to the main points, and ways you might direct the conversation to stir their affections and their actions.

Book Description
Excerpt from Notes on the Book of Genesis With the exception of the four gospels, I suppose there is no book in the Bible more deeply interesting than the Book of Genesis. It comes to us with all the freshness of God's first book to His people. The contents are varied, highly instructive, and most precious to the stu dent of God's entire book. These Notes are again laid at the Master's feet, in earnest prayer that He would take them up and send them forth under the stamp of His own divine approval. Amen. Book Description
Excerpt from Notes on Genesis The incomplete and fragmentary character Of the following notes has delayed their appearance in their present shape, and has caused me to hesitate long as to the expediency of publishing them. But the recep tion already accorded to my father's writings has been such as to confirm my own conviction that any authentic record of his thoughts possesses an intrinsic interest and value transcending the mere form in which they are clothed; and I believe that the Notes on Genesis will not be found deficient in those qualities which mark the works already published. Book Description
Excerpt from Genesis The following outline lessons on Genesis form part of a series originally drawn up for the use of my own Class and of the members of my Staff who might wish to avail themselves of them. They have been lent at various times to teachers in other schools, but as further requests have been made for them, it has been thougth advisable to publish the notes on Genesis, in order that they may be available either as a text-book for students or as a book of outline lessons for teachers. Each lesson contains the story of one or more chapters of Genesis, together with the moral and spiritual truths most clearly to be deduced from them. When used by teachers, these outline lessons will naturally be supplemented by wide reading, and adapted to the age and general intelligence of the class under instruction. In advanced Sixth Form or Bible Class work it would be advisable to make additions, and to take up points which are omitted in these outlines, either because they are too difficult for the average scholar, or because they were not generally applicable. For a boys school there are one or two lessons which could with advantage be added, but they have not been given here because for a girls school and for younger children they were not so necessary. For Junior work, the lessons should be simplified. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
