Book Description
The purpose of this monograph is to bring together in one volume some of the more recent knowledge of the cellular and biochemical constit uents of sheep's blood. Limitations of the space available have precluded a complete discus sion, but a number of good reviews have been published within the last few years on certain specific aspects and these have been referred to in the extensive bibliography. There is inevitably some overlap in the material discussed arising from duplication of interest and from the close association of the subject matter. The authors were asked to discuss normal values and the changes brought about in these by physiological stresses, particularly those imposed by pregnancy, age, lactation, and changing nutrition. In some cases, where it was considered suJtable, the response to certain pathological conditions have also been discussed. It is hoped that the monograph will be of value to those using sheep in comparative research into veterinary and human medicine as well as to students of ruminant physiology. Wellington/New Zealand, April 1975 M. H. BLUNT Table of Contents Distribution and Dynamics of Body Fluids in Sheep W.V. MACFARLANE. With 1 Figure .................................. . Strange Blood

Strange Blood PDF Author: Boel Berner
Publisher: transcript Verlag
ISBN: 3839451639
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 217

Book Description
In the mid-1870s, the experimental therapy of lamb blood transfusion spread like an epidemic across Europe and the USA. Doctors tried it as a cure for tuberculosis, pellagra and anemia; proposed it as a means to reanimate seemingly dead soldiers on the battlefield. It was a contested therapy because it meant crossing boundaries and challenging taboos. Was the transfusion of lamb blood into desperately sick humans really defensible? The book takes the reader on a journey into hospital wards and lunatic asylums, physiological laboratories and 19th century wars. It presents a fascinating story of medical knowledge, ambitions and concerns - a story that provides lessons for current debates on the morality of medical experimentation and care.

The Sheep of His Hand

The Sheep of His Hand PDF Author: Suzanne Davenport Tietjen
Publisher: Monarch Books
ISBN: 9780825462986
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 176

Book Description
The Sheep of His Hand is a walk through the Psalms alongside a little band of sheep. Sheep are individuals, and benefit from individualized care. Shepherds have always dealt with primal concerns--birth, death, love, rejection. Technology has changed much in the last millennium but the mud and the blood of shepherding are timeless--and sheep are still sheep. Sharing this ancient occupation with the Psalmist helped Suzanne Tietjen to understand what David had to say about walking with God. "This book is amazing! I not only learned more about sheep than I ever knew, I learned something about The Shepherd, too." Bob Hartman performance storyteller and author, The Lion Storyteller Bible "Brilliant . . . This highly original book breathes fresh life into an old metaphor. It deserves to be read by millions." Dr. Mark Stibbe The Father's House Trust "Beautifully written, refreshingly funny, and spiritually profound. This is the kind of book that sticks with you. Buy it. Read it. Share it with a friend." Dr. Bill Giovannetti author, How to Keep Your Inner Mess from Trashing Your Outer World "The escapades and tragedies of Suzanne's little woolly sheep touched my heart." Karen H. Whiting author, God's Girls

Understanding End Times Prophecy

Understanding End Times Prophecy PDF Author: Paul Benware
Publisher: Moody Publishers
ISBN: 1575674831
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 282

Book Description
Many Christians think of end times prophecy as a gigantic, intimidating puzzle -- difficult to piece together and impossible to figure out. But every puzzle can be solved if you approach it the right way. Paul Benware compares prophecy to a picture puzzle. Putting the edge pieces together first builds the 'framework' that makes it easier to fit the other pieces in their place. According to Benware, the framework for eschatology is the biblical covenants. He begins his comprehensive survey by explaining the major covenants. Then he discusses several different interpretations of end times prophecy. Benware digs into the details of the Rapture, the Great Tribulation, the judgements and resurrections, and the millennial kingdom. But he also adds a unique, personal element to the study, answering questions as: -Why study bible prophecy? -What difference does it make if I'm premillenial or amillenial? If what the Bible says about the future puzzles you, Understanding End Times Prophecy will help you put together the pieces and see the big picture.
