Book Description
Excerpt from The Bibliographer, Vol. 4: A Journal of Book-Lore The field of Bibliography extends over so vast a surface that it is no light labour to till it with success, and we can only hope to bring certain portions into cultivation. Most books have a history well worth the telling, and authors have long ago found that the vicissitudes of books form a subject of never-failing interest. But to tell all this would require a library itself; and we can only select. We trust that our selections have met and always will meet with the approval of our readers. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in our edition. We do, however, repair the vast majority of imperfections successfully; any imperfections that remain are intentionally left to preserve the state of such historical works.

Book Description
Excerpt from The Bibliographer, Vol. 3: A Journal of Book-Lore, December 1882 May 1883 A title alone cannot now be registered, but something in the form of a book (or number if a journal is to be registered) must be shown at the time the title is given in. We hope this very important subject will not be allowed to drop, and that pressure may be brought to bear on the proper authorities, so that a thorough system of registration may be undertaken by the State. A further duty will be the publication Of the titles, as the Specifications of Patents are printed. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Bibliographer, Vol. 6 PDF Author: J. W. Bouton

ISBN: 9781331886952

Book Description
Excerpt from The Bibliographer, Vol. 6: A Journal of Book-Lore, June November 1884 "When we inquire into any subject, the first thing we have to do is to know what books have treated of the subject; this leads us to look at Catalogues and the places of books in Libraries." - Dr. Johnson. With the present number, and the completion of a sixth volume, The Bibliographer comes to an end in its present form; and it is with regret that I have to say farewell to the readers of this Journal, for whom I have catered for three years. I had hoped that the public interest in Bibliography would have been sufficient to support for many years an independent Journal devoted to the interests of the pursuit which those who read these pages and we who write in them have very much at heart; but this hope has not been fulfilled, and the Publisher's reasons for altering his plans are unanswerable. Although The Bibliographer will cease to exist in its present form, it can scarcely be said to die, for from its ashes will rise a Magazine more popular in its objects and scope; and I with others hope to speak to our present readers in it.
