Trust, Accountability, and Capacity in Education System Reform

Trust, Accountability, and Capacity in Education System Reform PDF Author: Melanie Ehren
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780367362478
Category : Comparative education
Languages : en
Pages : 320

Book Description
This global collection brings a new perspective to the field of comparative education by presenting trust, capacity and accountability as the three building blocks of education systems and education system reform. In exploring how these three factors relate to student learning outcomes across different international contexts, this book provides a powerful framework for a more equal system. Drawing upon research and case studies from scholars, policymakers and experts from international agencies across five continents, this book shows how trust, capacity and accountability interact in ways and with consequences that vary among countries, pointing readers towards understanding potential leverage points for system change. Trust, Accountability, and Capacity in Education System Reform illuminates how these three concepts are embedded in an institutional context temporally, socially and institutionally and offers an analysis that will be of use to researchers, policymakers and agencies working in comparative education and towards education system reform. The Baxter Effect

The Baxter Effect PDF Author: Dave Stern
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
ISBN: 1416510664
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 321

Book Description
They rocketed into space as four ordinary human beings. They came back as heroes. The Fantastic Four -- the Thing, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and Mr. Fantastic. Together they have used their powers for the betterment of mankind. For years, the world's top scientists have dreamed of creating a quantum computer, a machine that would be infinitely more powerful than any based on the transistor. Now Reed Richards -- Mr. Fantastic -- has achieved that dream. He has birthed a device capable of creating the unbreakable cipher, predicting the weather, performing calculations, and retrieving knowledge at heretofore unimagined speeds. He has also, unwittingly, created something else. A machine that one of the Fantastic Four's oldest and most powerful adversaries will use against them, will twist to his own destructive, murderous purposes, one that will turn friend against friend, husband against wife, and force Ben Grimm -- the Thing -- to confront a nightmarish dilemma. A choice between humanity's salvation -- and the death of the three people he loves most in all the world. . . .

The Rise of Ransom City

The Rise of Ransom City PDF Author: Felix Gilman
Publisher: Macmillan
ISBN: 0765329409
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 370

Book Description
This is the story of Harry Ransom. If you know his name it's most likely as the inventor of the Ransom Process, a stroke of genius that changed the world. Or you may have read about how he lost the battle of Jasper City, or won it, depending on where you stand in matters of politics. Friends called him Hal or Harry, or by one of a half-dozen aliases, of which he had more than any honest man should. He often went by Professor Harry Ransom, and though he never had anything you might call a formal education, he definitely earned it. If you're reading this in the future, Ransom City must be a great and glittering metropolis by now, with a big bronze statue of Harry Ransom in a park somewhere. You might be standing on its sidewalk and not wonder in the least of how it grew to its current glory. Well, here is its story, full of adventure and intrigue. And it all starts with the day that old Harry Ransom crossed paths with Liv Alverhyusen and John Creedmoor, two fugitives running from the Line, amidst a war with no end.

John Owen, Richard Baxter and the Formation of Nonconformity

John Owen, Richard Baxter and the Formation of Nonconformity PDF Author: Tim Cooper
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1317110471
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 356

Book Description
John Owen (1616-1683) and Richard Baxter (1615-1691) were both pivotal figures in shaping the nonconformist landscape of Restoration England. Yet despite having much in common, they found themselves taking opposite sides in several important debates, and their relationship was marked by acute strain and mutual dislike. By comparing and contrasting the parallel careers of these two men, this book not only distils the essence of their differing theology, it also offers a broader understanding of the formation of English nonconformity. Placing these two figures in the context of earlier events, experience and differences, it argues that Restoration nonconformity was hampered by their strained personal relationship, which had its roots in their contrasting experiences of the English Civil War. This study thus contributes to historiography that explores the continuities across seventeenth-century England, rather than seeing a divide at 1660. It illustrates the way in which personality and experience shaped the development of wider movements.
