During the last four years, all sorts of works - Lectures, Manuals, Speeches, and Pamphlets, books of Travels, Notes, Sketches, Diaries, Rambles, and Revelations, in every variety of style and form - have continued to pour in upon us) some of them light and superficial enough - but many of them of great merit and ability. The history and statistics, the chemistry and geology of the subject, have been amply descanted on; but, as far as I am aware, we have not yet had any work which professes to discuss systematically its Economical bearings and probable Social results.
