La camicia bianca secondo me
Author: Gianfranco Ferré
Publisher:
ISBN: 9788857223469
Category : Blouses
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
A homage to the work and talent of the "architect - fashion designer" who since the early days of his career succeeded in establishing an ongoing dialogue between architecture and fashion, creating a new code with which these two difficult and complex worlds could perfectly combine. Ferré himself affirmed: "I believe that most part of my creative process is based on my background and training as an architect. For me fashion is poetry, intuition, imagery, but also a methodic and project oriented discipline, based on the fact that a dress is the result of a programmed and acknowledged intervention on forms and shapes". In a magical play of lightness and transparency, 27 shirts (selected from the most extraordinary shirts Ferré designed during his over 20 year long activity) testify to Ferré's creative genius and to the technical and project quality he put into the construction of this garment, which Ferré himself considered "the" sign of his style. These superb creations include the silk bustier that, blossoming like a delicate calla lily, "stands out like a corolla, framing the woman's face" almost defying the law of gravity, and the outstanding "upside down" shirt, whose utmost innovative structure turns this garment into an object of pure design. The catalogue features a wide selection of images, including Ferré's sketches and designs - unique work sheets capable of illustrating with only a few lines, the essence of the garment and the core idea of each project, highlighting all the precious particulars from the quality of the fabric, to the dramatic details and the hidden finishings.

What Artists Wear
Author: Charlie Porter
Publisher: W. W. Norton & Company
ISBN: 1324020415
Category : Art
Languages : en
Pages : 426
Book Description
An eye-opening and richly illustrated journey through the clothes worn by artists, and what they reveal to us. From Yves Klein’s spotless tailoring to the kaleidoscopic costumes of Yayoi Kusama and Cindy Sherman, from Andy Warhol’s denim to Martine Syms’s joy in dressing, the clothes worn by artists are tools of expression, storytelling, resistance, and creativity. In What Artists Wear, fashion critic and art curator Charlie Porter guides us through the wardrobes of modern artists: in the studio, in performance, at work or at play. For Porter, clothing is a way in: the wild paint-splatters on Jean-Michel Basquiat’s designer clothing, Joseph Beuys’s shamanistic felt hat, or the functional workwear that defined Agnes Martin’s life of spiritua labor. As Porter roams widely from Georgia O’Keeffe’s tailoring to David Hockney’s bold color blocking to Sondra Perry’s intentional casual wear, he weaves his own perceptive analyses with original interviews and contributions from artists and their families and friends. Part love letter, part guide to chic, with more than 300 images, What Artists Wear offers a new way of understanding art, combined with a dynamic approach to the clothes we all wear. The result is a radical, gleeful inspiration to see each outfit as a canvas on which to convey an identity or challenge the status quo.

You Will Wear a White Shirt
Author: Nick Sibbeston
Publisher: D & M Publishers
ISBN: 1771620560
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 384
Book Description
Growing up in a remote Northern community, Nick Sibbeston had little reason to believe he would one day fulfill his mother’s ambition of holding a career where he would “wear a white shirt.” Torn away from his family and placed in residential school at the age of five, Sibbeston endured loneliness, callous treatment and sexual assault by an older boy, but discovered a love of learning that would compel him to complete a law degree and pursue a career in politics. As a young, firebrand politician, Sibbeston played an instrumental role during a critical moment in Northwest Territories politics, advocating tirelessly to support the economic and political development of First Nations people in the North, and participating in early discussions of the separation of Nunavut. Sibbeston’s career advanced in great strides, first as an MLA, then one of Canada’s first Aboriginal lawyers, then as a cabinet minister and eventually premier of the Northwest Territories. Finally, he was appointed to the Senate of Canada, where he continues to represent the people of Canada’s North, not least in advocating for the generations affected by residential school policies. Although his years at residential school compelled Sibbeston to fight tirelessly for the rights of Aboriginal northerners, they also left a mark on his mental health, fuelling continual battles with anxiety, depression and addiction. It was only in later life that healing began to take place, as he battled his demons openly, supported not just by the medical community but also by his strong faith and the love of his wife and family.
