Book Description
Painting a Target on HPV is an evidence-based, detailed exploration of everything that is known about the human papillomavirus--the virus that causes cervical cancer. With an emphasis on non-surgical treatment, Dr. Nicholas LeRoy imparts twenty years of experience in treating and researching HPV and cervical dysplasia. In contrast to what your doctor has likely told you, a "wait-and-see" strategy for a HPV infection and for mild dysplasia may not be in your best interest and often results in unnecessary surgery and years of recurrent dysplasia, grief and fear that you will get cervical cancer. Don't make poor treatment decisions at the start that you may regret for years to come. Arm yourself with the facts! After reading Painting a Target on HPV you will understand how HPV transforms a normal cell into an abnormal one; HPV cofactors, the "partners-in-crime" that assist in the formation of cancer; that you are not cursed! There are always reasons why some women have persistent HPV infections and recurrent dysplasia and others do not; the research that supports nutritional supplementation and dietary changes to help eliminate dysplasia and HPV; and how escharotic therapy can cure even the most difficult cases of severe dysplasia (CIN3) without surgery!

Diet and Cancer
Author: Maryce M. Jacobs
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1489909397
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 267
Book Description
The American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) sponsored its third annual confer ence on nutrition and cancer. The theme was "Diet and Cancer: Markers, Prevention, and Treatment. " The conference was held October 29-30, 1992 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in McLean, Virginia. This proceedings contains chapters from the platform presentations and abstracts from the poster presentations. Several chapters address each of four session topics: Retinoids as Differentiation Agents in Cancer Therapy, Biological Markers of Cancer Risk, Chemoprevention of Cancer by Non-Nutrients in Foods, and Nutritional Problems and Support in the Treatment of Cancer. The first three chapters discuss in detail different mechanisms by which retinoids influence differentiation and provide evidence to support their use in cancer therapy. In vivo and in vitro studies show the effects of retinoic acid (RA) on tumorigenicity and cellu lar/molecular events. A synopsis of data showing the involvement of the retinoblastoma (RB) gene in HL-60 cell differentiation induced by RA and 1,2S-dihydroxy vitamin D3 (VD) is presented. In SCID (severe combined immunodeficiency) mice injected with HL-60 3 human leukemia cells and gavaged daily with RA, the number of tumor sites and number of mice with tumors are reduced. All trans-RA induces myeloid differentiation in HL-60 cells. Similarly, VD3 induces HL-60 monocytic differentiation. In both cases an early down regulation of retinoblastoma (RB) gene expression precedes the differentiation.

The Anticancer Diet: Reduce Cancer Risk Through the Foods You Eat
Author: David Khayat
Publisher: W. W. Norton & Company
ISBN: 0393246477
Category : Health & Fitness
Languages : en
Pages : 227
Book Description
With the huge number of studies on nutrition and cancer available, it's impossible for a person to sort through them all to come up with practical recommendations. Now, Dr. David Khayat, a world-renowned oncologist, has done that hard work for you. In this international bestseller, Dr. Khayat provides easy-to-follow—and often surprising—guidelines on what are now known to be the foods most likely to reduce the risk of cancer. For those of a scientific bent, he explains what cancer is and how it develops. Bringing together his own research with that of other major cancer specialists, he breaks down what the studies mean, which ones provide the most solid evidence, and how to use their results in your and your family’s diet. Structured by the major food groups—as well as supplements, beverages, and exercise—The Anticancer Diet may surprise you by not disparaging red meat but alerting you to find out the source of your fish and suggesting sole over salmon. While highly recommending commercial pomegranate juice, it cautions people with fair hair and eyes against drinking orange juice. What stage of life a person is at will also affect what they should consume. Pregnant women, older women, men, and children may process foods differently. With numerous easy-to-read charts and tables along with a comprehensive food list at the back of the book, this accessible, user-friendly guide helps readers realize the power in their everyday choices.

From Pap Smear to HPV Vaccine
Author: Sin Hang Lee
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781536188103
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
This book provides a comprehensive analysis of how the HPV industry has invaded and eroded the women's health care system in the field of cervical cancer prevention. The analysis based on currently available science and public records provides the readers interested in cervical cytopathology, HPV molecular diagnostics and HPV vaccination with a clear understanding of issues and solutions to cervical cancer prevention. Pap smear screening in the United States was first implemented as an annual test in the late 1940s. Its widespread use for early detection of precancerous cells destined to proceed to invasive carcinoma for timely ablative treatment markedly reduced the morbidity and mortality rates of cervical cancer. No one should die of cervical cancer if every woman continued receiving proper annual Pap smear screening carried out by a team of cytology technologist, pathologist and gynecologist. However, this teamwork broke down when cytology samples were sent to geographically distant centralized commercial laboratories for screening. Under such business atmosphere, cytology screeners, pathologists and gynecologists hardly speak to one another to discuss any potential diagnostic problems. Overwhelming numbers of unnecessary colposcopic biopsies have been performed on essentially healthy women when "false positive" cytology reports are sent to their gynecologists. However, it is the false-negative results which draw public attention while stories about Pap smear litigation cases are circulated around social media sites when follow-up tests unexpectedly reveal an invasive cancer during the patient's annual screening. Further chaos was created after human papillomavirus (HPV) infections were discovered by Dr. Harald zur Hausen to be one of the most important risk factors for developing cervical cancer. A handful of opportunists successfully persuaded the Food and Drug Administration to regulate their HPV assays as cancer tests and anti-HPV vaccines as cancer vaccines so that they can market these products by tapping into the public's fear of cancer. Commercial HPV tests detect many reversible cytopathology changes with high viral loads per cell, but are not sensitive enough to detect high-grade precancerous cells with low viral loads per cell. Without performing DNA sequencing, none of these test kits can provide an accurate genotyping for follow-up of persistent HPV infections, a true cancer risk. This book points out there is no factual evidence that HPV vaccination has prevented a single case of cervical cancer. Using reversible precancerous histologic changes as surrogate endpoints in clinical trials to support the claim of efficacy of HPV vaccination in prevention of cervical cancer is flawed. Since the HPV vaccine Gardasil relies on using residual HPV L1 gene DNA fragments bound to aluminum salt as the toll-like receptor 9 agonist to boost innate immune response, high levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines are generated in the vaccinees. These pro-inflammatory cytokines may cause serious adverse events in genetically and physically predisposed individuals. Women consumers are advised to read this book before choosing the modalities for cervical cancer prevention to protect their own health and lives as well as those of their loved ones.

Book Description
"The second edition of What to Eat During Cancer Treatment contains more than 130 recipes-including 102 new dishes. The book provides practical tips and suggestions to help patients and their caregivers anticipate--and overcome--the major challenges of eating well during treatment. Written by Jeanne Besser, an award-winning cookbook author; Barbara Grant, a board-certified specialist in oncology nutrition; and experts in nutrition and cancer care from the American Cancer Society, the book contains a wealth of information for both patients and their families. Chapters are organized by these side effects, and introductory information for each section is based on evidence-based research and sound clinical experience. Symbols are used throughout to flag recipes that apply to more than one side effect, making the book a versatile resource for different phases and types of cancer treatment. The book will appeal both to people undergoing treatment and the caregivers, family, and friends who are providing support.
