Book Description
Martin Palmer (ca. 1625-1702) was born in England, and immigrated to Virginia in 1653. He married four times: (1) Mary (d. before 1677), (2) Rachel Jones Croshaw (d. ca. 1677), (3) Mrs. Cobbs, and (4) Mrs. Robins (d. before 1702). The last three were widows, some with children by their previous marriages, but Martin apparently fathered only two children, both by his first wife. Descendants gradually moved westward, through Kentucky and the Ohio River region and beyond.

Here is a step-by-step guide to writing historical skits, plays, or monologues for all ages from true life stories, genealogy records, oral history, DNA-driven anthropology, social issues, current events, and personal history of early colonial era settlers. Put direct experience in a small package and launch it worldwide. You could emphasize the early New England 17th century settlers and their diaries of family life, food, clothing, marriage, spirituality, customs, or significant life events, migrations, work, lifestyle, or turning points. Write your life story or your ancestor's or favorite historical person in short vignettes of 1,500 to 1,800 words. Write a longer novel or a short play for school audiences. Write a children's book with illustrations. Write a skit, a monologue, or a play based on genealogy, family history, or significant events. You can focus on relations between families, or early settlers and Native American tribes or on personal family history, marriages, and inter-family issues.

The Correspondence of John Cotton

The Correspondence of John Cotton PDF Author: Sargent Bush Jr.
Publisher: UNC Press Books
ISBN: 0807839159
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 634

Book Description
John Cotton (1584-1652) was a key figure in the English Puritan movement in the first half of the seventeenth century, a respected leader among his generation of emigrants from England to New England. This volume collects all known surviving correspondence by and to Cotton. These 125 letters--more than 50 of which are here published for the first time--span the decades between 1621 and 1652, a period of great activity and change in the Puritan movement and in English history. Now carefully edited, annotated, and contextualized, the letters chart the trajectory of Cotton's career and revive a variety of voices from the troubled times surrounding Charles I's reign, including those of such prominent figures as Oliver Cromwell, Bishop John Williams, John Dod, and Thomas Hooker, as well as many little-known persons who wrote to Cotton for advice and guidance. Among the treasures of early Anglo-American history, these letters bring to life the leading Puritan intellectual of the generation of the Great Migration and illustrate the network of mutual support that nourished an intellectual and spiritual movement through difficult times.
