Program Ampcross: Probabilistic Analysis of an Ocean Wave Record Using the Cdc 1604 Computer
Author: G. E. Ellis
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 34
Book Description
AMPCROSS is a comprehensive program written for the Control Data Corporation 1604 digital computer for the investigation of the random phenomena associated with ocean waves. The program reconstructs the sampled wave record and determines the wave amplitudes, half-periods, periods, and wave heights. These wave parameters are counted, categorized, and described in terms of magnitude, probability of occurrence, and joint probability of occurrence. This report includes a description of the Fortran 63 routine and a list of the coding steps. (Author).

A Digital Computer Program for the Analysis of Wave-Form Data (Multi-Record Wave Investigator for Sine and Random Data - MR WISARD).
Author: Robert S. Reed
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 142
Book Description
A digital computer program called MR WISARD (an acronym for Multi-Record Wave Investigator for Sine and Random Data) has been developed. The program accepts time-series data (sinusoidal, random or transient) and generates a number of quantities which are of interest in the field of acoustics, vibration, statistics, and shock analysis. The program is written almost entirely in the FORTRAN language. It is at present operable on an IBM 7090/94 computer with the IBSYS FORTRAN IV system. This report describes the operation of the program with this system. The program requires very little knowledge of the computer or its operation. The routines included in MR WISARD were written collected to solve various data analysis problems. They were combined into a single program because of the obvious advantages in bookkeeping and ease of usage. Instructions for using the program are presented in sections on data entry, data modification, data scaling, data display, single-record analysis, and multiple-record analysis. Method of computation and mathematical definitions are presented in Appendix A. Appendix B discusses some problems which might be encountered in the analog-to-digital conversion of data. Appendix C shows examples of the usage of many of the options available in MR WISARD. (Author).

Oceanic Abstracts with Indexes
Of Seas and Ships and Scientists
Author: John Gould
Publisher: Lutterworth Press
ISBN: 071889703X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 352
Book Description
This book captures the excitement of a formative phase of UK science during and immediately following WWII. It links back to scientists working at Antarctic whaling stations and the complimentary voyages of Captain Scott's Discovery that explored the vast icy Southern Ocean, funded by a tax on whale oil. In the depths of WWII a small group of young scientists were brought together under the inspirational leadership of Dr (later Sir) George Deacon, and shortly after the end of the war, the UKis first National Institute of Oceanography was formed. The discoveries from 50 years ago underpin our modern-day science. The bookis chapters are all written and edited by NIO scientists and convey the atmosphere of work at sea in a bygone age before small computers, satellite navigation and easy communication. The book is A useful introduction for students of marine and/or environmental science. It will appeal to many scientists and the general public , to those interested in science and innovation during and after WWII and of course to many living in the Surrey who always wondered what went on in the leafy lanes that were home to NIO and its successors for almost 50 years.
