Book Description
A report of the relief work undertaken by women in Harrisburg, Pa. during the Spanish-American War. The Woman's War Relief Auxiliary was formed in July, 1898. Rooms were set up for the ladies of the Auxiliary to sew pajamas, towels, sheets, and nightshirts needed by the soldiers. Later a Soldiers' Rest was established at the corner of Walnut Street and Court Alley in Harrisburg to provide a place for the soldiers at Camp Meade to spend time, play music, and have a free lunch. The report is illustrated with 5 photographs of the buildings and the soldiers writing, eating, and relaxing in the rooms; includes the Treasurer's report for the Woman's War Relief Auxiliary.
