Test Results of Fatigue at Elevated Temperatures on Aeronautical Materials

Test Results of Fatigue at Elevated Temperatures on Aeronautical Materials PDF Author: PL. Galmard

Book Description
This paper shows how fatigue tests at elevated temperature solve many problems pertaining to aeronautical materials. Prolonged periods (5000 or 10 000 h) at 150 C (302 F) did not diminish the fatigue limit at 150 C (302 F) of the aluminum alloy 2618-T6. Consequently, the aerodynamic heating of airframes at Mach 2 does not reduce the fatigue limit of this alloy.

Effect of Compressive Loads on Structural Fatigue at Elevated Temperature

Effect of Compressive Loads on Structural Fatigue at Elevated Temperature PDF Author: Douglas Aircraft Company
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Materials
Languages : en
Pages : 178

Book Description
The effects of compressive loads on structural fatigue at elevated temperatures are investigated using plain, notched, and welded Titanium 8Al-1Mo-1V, and PH 15-7Mo stainless steel coupon specimens. Specimens are subjected to Mach 3 spectrum test environment, including compressive loads. Fatigue life predictions are compared with spectrum teset results. The influence of prior stress-strain history on subsequent life is considered. Prediction methods are extended to include the compression range, and results notched specimens is determined analytically and experimentally. A variety of individual variable fatigue tests are performed at temperatures up to 900F.

Current Aeronautical Fatigue Problems

Current Aeronautical Fatigue Problems PDF Author: J. Schijve
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483223213
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 510

Book Description
Current Aeronautical Fatigue Problems contains the papers presented at the Symposium on Current Aeronautical Fatigue Problems, held in Rome in April 1963. The symposium is held with the purpose of reaching a fruitful and effective exchange of information on all aspects of fatigue problems in aeronautics. The main subjects covered in the symposium were: elevated-temperature effects, crack propagation and residual static strength, and structural fatigue testing. The specific topics discussed include the importance of non-linear interactions which affect creep and strength properties under variable stress and temperature; the factors affecting the fatigue life of a light alloy supersonic transport aircraft; the techniques of fractography applicable to crack propagation problems; and the use of ordered, cyclic, test loadings to represent the complex loading histories generated in service. Aeronautical engineers, materials scientists, physicists, and metallurgists will find the book invaluable.

Elevated Termperature Fatigue Properties of D6AC High Strength Steel

Elevated Termperature Fatigue Properties of D6AC High Strength Steel PDF Author: Sidney O. Davis
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Steel alloys
Languages : en
Pages : 36

Book Description
A program was conducted to obtain complete stress versus number of cycles (S-N) curves for D6AC steel heat treated to an ultimate strength of 270 KSI. Tension-tension fatigue tests were conducted on notched and unnotched specimens at 75, 450, and 550 F for stress ratios of 1 and infinity. Tensile and stress rupture data were obtained in conjunction with the fatigue data.

Fatigue Testing and Analysis of Results

Fatigue Testing and Analysis of Results PDF Author: W. Weibull
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483154165
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 322

Book Description
Fatigue Testing and Analysis of Results discusses fundamental concepts of fatigue testing and results analysis. The book begins with a description of the symbols and nomenclature selected for the present book, mainly those proposed by the ASTM Committee E-9 on Fatigue. Fatigue testing methods are then discussed including routine tests, short-life and long-life tests, cumulative-damage tests, and abbreviated and accelerated tests. Separate chapters cover fatigue testing machines and equipment; instruments and measuring devices; and test pieces used in fatigue testing. The factors affecting test results are considered, including material, types of stressing, test machine, environment, and testing technique. The final two chapters cover the planning of test programs and the presentation of results. Test program planning involves the statistical design of a test series; specification and sampling of test pieces; and choice of test pieces, testing machines, and test conditions. The chief purpose of most fatigue tests is the experimental determination of the relation between the endurance and the magnitude of the applied stress range for the material and the specimen under consideration, and final results can be condensed into a table, graph, or analytical expression.
