A Determination of Diffusion Coefficients for Gaseous Systems at Various Temperatures
Author: Roger A. Strehlow
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Diffusion
Languages : en
Pages : 262
Book Description
The transport property which is most fundamentally related to forces between unlike molecules is the ordinary diffusion due to concentration gradients. Unfortunately, this property and its dependence upon temperature have not been systematically studied experimentally, with the result that the literature does not contain the data necessary to obtain good force constants for the introduction of unlike molecuels. The present work describes an experimental method for determining diffusion coefficients, based on the variation of thermal conductivity with composition in binary mixtures which is capable of being used over a wide range of temperature. Experimental results for the systems n-butane-hydrogen, sulfur hexafluoride-hydrogen, argon-hydrogen, and argon-helium are given for a temperature range from 10°C. to 140°C.

Investigation of the Temperature Dependence of the Coefficient of Diffusion of Gases

Pages : 16
Book Description
Two methods of determining coefficient of dif fusion of gases (c. d. g.) (weight and freezing) are described. With the first, c. d. are determined for the system of gases CO2-H2, CO2 N2, N2-H2, in the range of temperatures 20 800 C.A semi-empirical formula of dependence of c. d. g. on temperature is offered. A con nection between the coefficients of self diffusion and interdiffusion of gases is established. A comparison is made of the formula offered and Chepmen-Enskiy's formula with the experimental data which shows a satisfactory concurrence of both formulas. (Author).
