A pedagogia de projetos é uma mudança de atitude pedagógica fundamentada na concepção de que a aprendizagem ocorre a partir da resolução de situações-problema significativas para o aluno, aproximando-o do seu contexto social e do desenvolvimento do senso crítico. Para a resolução dessas situações-problema, no projeto apresentado o aluno desenvolve uma pesquisa, e durante o processo de execução trabalha: conhecimentos específicos de cada área, colaboração, valores fundamentais como conduta, competência, habilidades e posturas diante de diversas situações inesperadas. Por meio desse projeto o autor investiga se o desenvolvimento da pedagogia de projetos com alunos do ensino fundamental II envolvendo educação ambiental auxiliaria na melhoria do aproveitamento escolar, se aproximaria os alunos de realidades socioculturais por eles desconhecidas, se facilitaria a compreensão e realização de trabalhos interdisciplinares e ao mesmo tempo se o trabalho despertaria os alunos para ações ecológicas. Como temática para a preparação do projeto, adotou-se o tema transversal “meio ambiente” com destaque para “ervas medicinais”. Os resultados dessa experiência mostraram que os alunos envolveram-se em uma experiência na qual o processo de construção do conhecimento esteve ligado às práticas vividas, e isso os levou ao interesse genuíno pelas ciências.
