Book Description
It is widely held that technology transfer is closely linked to a nation's economic development. For this reason, the South African government assigned twelve technology stations to support small and medium sized enterprises (SME). The main aim of these stations is the transfer of technology from the universities, where they are housed, to the SMEs in scientific areas ranging from biotechnology to agriculture. This study delivers a detailed analysis of each technology station and offers an explanation as to why some technology stations are more successful than others. This study focuses on the influence of the organizational culture on technology transfer and employs Cultural Theory to analyze, categorize and thereby compare the culture types of the organizations being studied. A few other interesting discoveries are also made by this study: that Grid/Group Cultural Theory can be utilized in the methodology of a study to determine the organizational culture of any organization; that if the impact of organizational culture on technology transfer can be determined empirically, then the impact of organizational culture on other factors can also be determined empirically; and that if organizational culture can be used to determine the success of technology transfer, then it can probably determine the success of other organizations, irrespective of what service that organization provides.

Book Description
The focus of this study is the role played by technology stations in promoting innovation and technology transfer. Evidence points out that technology stations can be highly innovative, contribute to economic growth and create jobs. Therefore, this study also explores the socio-economic impact of technology stations as well as their contribution to the national system of innovation. In 2017, there were 18 technology stations in South Africa situated within various universities. Technology stations offer a wide range of different services aimed at assisting the development of small, micro and medium enterprises (SMMEs). The study captured the experience of two technology stations at Tshwane University of Technology: one in electronics and the other in chemicals. Both were established in the financial year 2000/2001. These two technology stations support SMMEs with a range of services, including, design services, manufacturing support and skills development. The study aims at providing a better understanding of how technology stations foster technology and transfer knowledge in order to assist SMMEs. In this way, technology stations are able to contribute to society in general. The findings of this study provide relevant insights and recommendations to small medium enterprises, academia and stakeholders wishing to promote and provide innovative ideas and facilitate technology transfers. The research followed qualitative and exploratory cross sectional study methods. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), the Department of Science and Technology and a number of technology station managers. The data was analyzed using interpretive paradigms.
