Representational Techniques for Architecture

Representational Techniques for Architecture PDF Author: Lorraine Farrelly
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing
ISBN: 1474239269
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 273

Book Description
The techniques used to represent architectural design are examined in Representational Techniques for Architecture. A broad array of methodologies for developing architectural ideas are described, ranging from two- and three-dimensional conceptual sketches, through to the working drawings required for the construction of buildings. The book offers a range of practical drawing methods, showing how to present and plan layouts, make conceptual sketches, work with scale, use collage and photomontage to create contemporary images, along with techniques to prepare and plan design portfolios. The book also deals with contemporary computer modelling and drawing techniques. In the second edition, 25% of the material is new: many of the images have been updated, and new case studies have been added, for example architect studios such as Coophimmelblau and C J Lim/Studio 8 architects. Additional case studies are drawn from American and international architectural practices and studios. The most up-to-date CAD technology is examined along with illustrations showing how it can be used to create architectural models and plans. The enhanced project sections encourage students to explore further the techniques that they have acquired.

Computer Architecture Techniques for Power-efficiency

Computer Architecture Techniques for Power-efficiency PDF Author: Stefanos Kaxiras
Publisher: Morgan & Claypool Publishers
ISBN: 1598292080
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 220

Book Description
In the last few years, power dissipation has become an important design constraint, on par with performance, in the design of new computer systems. Whereas in the past, the primary job of the computer architect was to translate improvements in operating frequency and transistor count into performance, now power efficiency must be taken into account at every step of the design process. While for some time, architects have been successful in delivering 40% to 50% annual improvement in processor performance, costs that were previously brushed aside eventually caught up. The most critical of these costs is the inexorable increase in power dissipation and power density in processors. Power dissipation issues have catalyzed new topic areas in computer architecture, resulting in a substantial body of work on more power-efficient architectures. Power dissipation coupled with diminishing performance gains, was also the main cause for the switch from single-core to multi-core architectures and a slowdown in frequency increase. This book aims to document some of the most important architectural techniques that were invented, proposed, and applied to reduce both dynamic power and static power dissipation in processors and memory hierarchies. A significant number of techniques have been proposed for a wide range of situations and this book synthesizes those techniques by focusing on their common characteristics.

Practice

Practice PDF Author: Stan Allen
Publisher: Psychology Press
ISBN: 9789057010729
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 230

Book Description
Essays by Stan Allen. Commentary by Diana Agrest. Foreword by Saul Ostrow. Architect and theorist Stan Allen examines how different modes of representation affect architectural practice, how, for example, the choice of axonometric, orthographic, or perspective representation reflects complex preconceptions about space, visuality, and design. In addition, he analyzes the role of media in architecture. Diana Agrest situates Allen's work in the wider context of semiotic and structuralist debate on paradigms of representation.
