Book Description
Sugarcane is not only major industrial crop but also one of the economic pillar crops in Myanmar agriculture. Due to increased demand for local consumption and export oriented nature, it should be increased not only plantation area but also yield per unit area and recovery percentage. In Myanmar, state sector productions are target driven and private sector productions are profit-oriented on free market economy. But sugarcane based small holding farms of private sector faced many challenges. Yield of sugarcane production and cane quality is low and production cost is high due to high transportation and input cost and loan interest. The small-scale private sector operates with very low efficiency in sugar recovery, higher losses and inferior in quality. Increases in sugar production are influenced by improvements in the production technology of existing sugarcane lands, mills and new sugar processing facilities. So, there is a need for technology improvement and technical efficiency measurement. This book provides economic analysis and effective ways to improve the profitability and technical efficiency of small holder sugarcane farmers at different farm size and plant natur

A Philippine Sugar Cane District

A Philippine Sugar Cane District PDF Author: Norman Willard Schul
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Geography
Languages : en
Pages : 270

Book Description
The study primarily involves the analysis of physical and cultural factors affecting sugar cane yield although it will also further an understanding of the spatial organization of sugar cane production. The study is based on the Victorias Milling District, which covers approximately 37,000 hectares in northern Negros Occidental Province in the central Philippines. A simple model was used to describe the area's spatial organization of sugar cane production in the sphere of plantation agriculture. The model stipulates (1) an extensive land area, (2) mono-cropping, (3) centralized managerial control, (4) an abundant labor supply and (5) production for the export market. It has these further qualities which are believed to be comparable for most sugar cane districts in the Philippines: the characteristic hacienda-central settlements, the problems of mechanization, and the quota system for sugar cane. The yield factors studied were hacienda size, hauling distance from the hacienda to the mill, the slope, soil quality, the necessity for trucking, tenure, and the type of power used in land preparation.
