Book Description
Development and Reform of Technical and Vocational Education in the UAE explores the role and vision of the UAE leadership in the development of technical and vocational education, and the relation between these ‘Vision’ plans and policy. Through extensive original research into Technical and Vocational Education in the UAE, the book explores the impact of TVET on Emirati employment in the private sector, as well as its role in facilitating the transition to a knowledge economy. In 2021, the UAE government announced 13 projects intended to boost the number of Emiratis in the private sector by 75,000, with the goal of making 10 percent of the private sector workforce Emirati by 2025. “The future is in the private sector,” H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai declared. Enhancements to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the UAE will underpin these plans, which complement the UAE leadership’s long-term ‘Visions’, such as UAE Vision 2021, Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 and the UAE Centennial 2071. A sustainable knowledge economy requires organic innovation and if the next generation of Emiratis are to succeed in this future workforce, they will need to be equipped with the necessary skills. TVET is at the heart of this, and an in-depth analysis of its efficacy in the UAE is an essential first step in implementing these ambitious plans. The book addresses these over-arching issues through three related research questions: Is there an effective TVET strategy to meet the skills demands of the leadership’s Visions? Is TVET being delivered effectively? Is there a system to engage the unemployed in jobs relevant to their skillset? The research reveals that change is necessary if the next generation of Emirati students are to fully participate in realizing the UAE leadership’s Visions for the decades to come. The book presents 21 findings on the current TVET system, and 10 recommendations that chart a path for the more effective implementation of TVET to support the Vision agendas of the UAE leadership.

Book Description
The ECSSR’s 10th Annual Education Conference, titled ‘Education and Jobs of the Future: Developing Qualified Human Capital to Secure the UAE’s Progress,’ underscored the paramount importance of education as the cornerstone of progress for any society. Held from November 12 to 13, 2019, the conference brought together leading experts to explore some of the most pertinent issues facing contemporary education, with a particular focus on the role of technology. The future of employment, and the skills required in the decades to come, is one of the most significant issues poised to impact our societies and economies. As education and employment are intrinsically linked, the nature of educational provision and how we tailor it to coming developments, will have a profound effect on workforces. At the heart of the issue is the pressing need for dynamic educational systems where students can hone a variety of skills. The value of critical thinking, to complement core technological competencies, cannot be overstated as we strive to support adaptable life-long learners who are able to play a productive role in the workplace of tomorrow. Focused on these vital issues, this book presents the most significant papers presented at the conference by experts from a variety of educational and vocational disciplines, locally and internationally. The first chapter considers the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on higher education, where new technologies precipitate a realignment of STEM disciplines. Chapter Two focuses on the connection between outcomes-based education and the fulfillment of UAE national objectives. In Chapter Three, the role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is highlighted, with a specific look at its development and promotion in the UAE, while opportunities for people of determination as partners in development in the UAE are discussed in Chapter Four. Chapter Five broadens the scope with a look at international experiences in education, exploring an Innovation and Design program at the National University of Singapore, and in Chapter Six, an institutions-based, strategic approach highlights the opportunities in international collaboration in education. The development of Singapore’s national education system is the focus in Chapter Seven, illustrating the challenges and opportunities in one of the world’s most successful educational experiences. Continuing with the focus on higher education, Chapter Eight considers the Canadian context, and the factors in the establishment of its university system, which boasts some of the most prestigious institutions in the world. Finally, in Chapter Nine, the analysis turns to comprehensive education, and early childhood education in particular, to show how Finland has created a world-class educational model, while exploring some important lessons learned during its development. This book serves not only as a way to collate the knowledge shared during the ECSSR’s 10th Annual Education Conference, but aims to underscore the importance of education as the UAE embarks on a new phase in its strategic planning for the next fifty years of the nation’s journey.

The Report: Abu Dhabi 2016

The Report: Abu Dhabi 2016 PDF Author: Oxford Business Group
Publisher: Oxford Business Group
ISBN: 1910068586
Category : United Arab Emirates
Languages : en
Pages : 348

Book Description
Subdued oil prices prompted a trimmed federal budget for 2016 as the UAE, like other countries in the region, tightened its belt in response to falling hydrocarbons revenues. However, a sustained focus on economic diversification and targeted investment in Abu Dhabi’s key non-oil sectors in recent years means the emirate is well positioned to weather the storm. Looking forward, plans for future development are mapped out in Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, a comprehensive economic policy document that aims to reduce dependence on oil and gas, thereby creating a more sustainable knowledge-based economy for the emirate and its inhabitants. Aided by hydrocarbons reserves that are among the world’s largest and substantial financial resources, Abu Dhabi has built up a strong foundation to become a regional leader and an increasingly important global player in a wide variety of sectors, including oil and gas, financial services, health care, aviation and renewable energy.

The Economic Development of the United Arab Emirates (RLE Economy of Middle East)

The Economic Development of the United Arab Emirates (RLE Economy of Middle East) PDF Author: Ragaei el Mallakh
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1317598199
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 181

Book Description
Since the early 1970s the oil producing countries of the Gulf have become a focus of intense interest worldwide. Most of this interest has centred on the oil giants, Saudi Arabia, Iran, even Iraq and Kuwait. Yet the United Arab Emirates is also among the largest producers, on a par with Kuwait, Nigeria and Libya, with reserves greater than the USA. Given its high economic growth rate, the UAE is an excellent laboratory in which to test and evaluate policies and programmes to effect rapid economic development. The international stature of the UAE far exceeds what its physical size, population and breadth of resources would seem to indicate. As a member of OPEC, the UAE has played a vital role within that body’s ‘price moderates’. With one of the world’s highest per capita incomes and with ambitious development efforts under way, the UAE, not surprisingly, has become a major market for capital and consumer goods, involving substantial foreign services, banking, business and industry. Based on more than a decade of study, on-site research and interviews with key figures, this book – which mixes the practical with the academic approach – will prove of great value to Middle Eastern and development specialists, students and to the international business and financial communities. First published in 1981.
