Book Description
Patrick, a young Nigerian graduate, travelled to Europe hoping to start life as an engineer. But on getting to Munich, he realized that to avoid being deported on expiry of his visa, he has to become an asylum seeker. But life as a refugeewith no right to work, limited freedom of movement, constant harassment from the police and having to queue for food every day was not what he wanted. Feeling trapped, he resorted to peddling drugs and doing illegal jobs to raise money to buy a passage to London. He arrived in London on borrowed documents only to realise that he has simply traded his status as an asylum seeker to that of an illegal immigrant. Nonetheless, he was able to secure jobs with forged documentations with relative ease. Living in the UK was easier although tainted with the constant reminder of his illegal status, which he tried many times to overturn but with no success. Then the European Union expanded, bringing to a stop all he was enjoying. Suddenly, illegal immigrants became hunted, and with a looming long jail term if caught, he decided to end it all by moving back home. While in Nigeria, he secured admission to a university in Norway and, for the first time, was able to live legally in Europe. Sadly, neither his new legal status nor educational achievement was able to stop the subtle racist behaviors he experienced in everyday life in Europe. Finally, he decided to relocate back home where at least he wouldnt be treated as a second class citizen.

Sanathana Sarathi English Volume 04 (1990 to 1999) PDF Author: Sri Sathya Sai Media Centre
Publisher: Sri Sathya Sai Media Centre
ISBN:
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 3144

Book Description
Started in 1958, Sanathana Sarathi is a monthly magazine devoted to Sathya (Truth), Dharma (Righteousness), Shanti (Peace) and Prema (Love) - the four cardinal principles of Bhagawan Baba's philosophy. It is published from Prasanthi Nilayam (the Abode of Highest Peace) and acts as a mouthpiece of Baba's Ashram as it speaks of the important events that take place in His sacred Abode, besides carrying Divine Messages conveyed through Divine Discourses of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. The word meaning of Sanathana Sarathi is the 'Eternal Charioteer'. It signifies the presence of the Lord in every being as the atma guiding their lives like a charioteer. It implies that he who places his life, the body being likened to a chariot, in an attitude of surrender in the hands of the Lord, will be taken care of by the Lord even as a charioteer would take the occupant of his chariot safely to its destination. The magazine is an instrument to disseminate spiritual knowledge for the moral, physical and mental uplift of humanity without any discrimination as the subject matter discussed therein is always of common interest and of universal appeal. The fifteen Vahinis - streams of sacredness - known as the Vahini Series comprising annotation and interpretation of the Upanishads and other scriptures, Itihasas like the Ramayana, the Bhagavatha and the Mahabharata, and authentic explanations on Dhyana, Dharma, Prema, etc., have been serially published in this magazine as and when they emanated from the Divine pen of Bhagawan Baba. This magazine is published in almost all Indian languages, English and Telugu from Prasanthi Nilayam and others from respective regions. Every year Sanathana Sarathi comes out with a special issue in November commemorating the Divine Birthday. The English and Telugu magazines are posted on the 10th and 23rd respectively, of every month, from Prasanthi Nilayam. This magazine has wide, ever increasing circulation in India as well as abroad, as the study of it brings the reader closer to the philosophy of the Avatar in simple understandable language THUS SPAKE SAI... Discoursing during the launch of Sanathana Sarathi... From this day, our Sanathana Sarathi will lead to victory the cohorts of truth - the Vedas, the Sastras and similar scriptures of all faiths, against the forces of the ego such as injustice, falsehood, immorality and cruelty. This is the reason why it has emerged. This Sarathi will fight in order to establish world prosperity. It is bound to sound the paean of triumph when universal Ananda is achieved.

Loving the Enemy - building bridges in a time of war

Loving the Enemy - building bridges in a time of war PDF Author: Andrew March
Publisher: Hallwill Publishing
ISBN:
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 288

Book Description
Loving the Enemy tells the compelling true story of Fred Clayton, a grammar schoolboy from Liverpool, and brilliant Cambridge scholar, who leaves the comfort of the halls of Cambridge at the beginning of the Nazi era and makes a troubled journey to discover first-hand what life must be like to live under the despotic regime. Arriving in Dresden, he develops a friendship with a German family that will change his life. Through the course of the next decade, with his and their nations at war, Fred will not forget the connections that have been made and refuses to allow hate to win. After the war, with Dresden in ruins, reflecting his own state of mind, Fred writes to the same German family. Will he find the healing, love and redemption he seeks? “It is my hope that, thanks to Andy’s efforts, the story will inspire you as much as it has inspired me, and that it will find its place as a signpost, even a landmark, along the path of reconciliation, trust and love which links Coventry and Dresden; Britain and Germany.” (Christopher Cocksworth, Bishop of Coventry, from the Foreword) "A wonderful story. Family history and perseverance to do the right thing. Found it hard to put it down. Fabulously written." "This is a compelling, well written biography with many attributes of a thriller that I couldn’t put down. I highly recommend it." "I absolutely loved this book. It is a page-turning true life story of two fascinating people, Fred and Rike, living through the tumultuous 1930s and 1940s. It is a real human story, and I came to love the key characters." "This story is truly compelling and beautifully written. It is gritty, honest and deeply moving, giving new insights into both sides of the war. Highly recommended!"
