Philosophical Paths in the Public Sphere
Author: Gaetano Chiurazzi
Publisher: LIT Verlag Münster
ISBN: 3643905963
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 287
Book Description
The essays in this volume, structured like a small dictionary, investigate some themes philosophically relevant to the public sphere, such as: common sense, death, individuation, liberty, public/private, responsibility, secularization, social justice, and work. They explore some philosophical lines of thought, some paths, within that sphere, which inevitably cross one another, from one essay to the next. Their aim is to show the relevance of philosophical reflection on the public sphere - the place in which philosophy ultimately finds its historical a priori and its very reason for being. (Series: Philosophy: Research and Science / Philosophie: Forschung und Wissenschaft - Vol. 44) [Subject: Philosophy]

Proust, the One, and the Many
Author: Erika Fulop
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1351192493
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 392
Book Description
"One of the many aspects that make Marcel Prousts A la recherche du temps perdu such a complex and subtle work is its engagement with metaphysical questions. The disparate nature of the narrators experiences, hypotheses, and statements has generated a number of conflicting interpretations, based on parallels with the thought of one or another philosopher from Plato to Leibniz, Spinoza, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Bergson, or Deleuze. Through the analysis of the narrators two seemingly incompatible perceptions of the world, which reveal reality to be either one or infinitely multiple, Erika Fuelop proposes a reading of the novel that reconciles the opposites. Rather than being undecided or self-contradictory, the narrative thematizes the insufficiency of the dualist perspective and invites the reader to take a step beyond it. Erika Fuelop is an independent researcher, whose doctoral thesis completed at the University of Aberdeen is at the basis of this monograph."

Kant and the Metaphors of Reason
Author: Patricia Kauark-Leite
Publisher: Georg Olms Verlag
ISBN: 3487151243
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 619
Book Description
In recent decades, metaphor has become a respectable and central theme in philosophy. In his critical philosophy, Kant treats this theme in terms of the notions of analogy and symbolization. In addition to contributing significantly to the development of our understanding of the role played by images, metaphors and symbols in both theoretical and practical issues, Kant is also widely recognized as a great creator of metaphors in his own right. Symbols, analogies and aesthetic ideas are undeniably metaphorical processes, which fulfill a function in Kant’s philosophical language that is as fundamental as it is systematic. This collected volume is the result of a recent initiative on the part of an international group of Kantian philosophers and scholars to promote research on topics that have yet to be thoroughly explored in academic research. This is certainly true of the topic of metaphor in Kant’s philosophy, to which the present volume is devoted.
