Biomechanical Modeling of the Cardiovascular System

Biomechanical Modeling of the Cardiovascular System PDF Author: Ricardo Armentano
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780750312813
Category : TECHNOLOGY & ENGINEERING
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
"Modeling has provided not only answers to questions related to normal or pathological function but also predicted multiple adaptations of the total and individual dynamic structures that are included in cardiovascular research. The original idea of this book was to produce a textbook to be used for the course 'Modeling in Biomechanics and Mechanobiology', which is oriented to Artificial Organs and Tissue Engineering at Buenos Aires University, Argentina. This book brings together the challenges and experiences of academic scientists, leading engineers, industry researchers and students to enable them to analyse results of all aspects of biomechanics and biomedical engineering. It also provides a springboard to discuss the practical challenges and to propose solutions on this complex subject." -- Prové de l'editor.

PanVascular Medicine

PanVascular Medicine PDF Author: Peter Lanzer
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9783642370779
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 5004

Book Description
Vascular management and care has become a truly multidisciplinary enterprise as the number of specialists involved in the treatment of patients with vascular diseases has steadily increased. While in the past, treatments were delivered by individual specialists, in the twenty-first century a team approach is without doubt the most effective strategy. In order to promote professional excellence in this dynamic and rapidly evolving field, a shared knowledge base and interdisciplinary standards need to be established. Pan Vascular Medicine, 2nd edition has been designed to offer such an interdisciplinary platform, providing vascular specialists with state-of-the art descriptive and procedural knowledge. Basic science, diagnostics, and therapy are all comprehensively covered. In a series of succinct, clearly written chapters, renowned specialists introduce and comment on the current international guidelines and present up-to-date reviews of all aspects of vascular care.

Human Baroreflexes in Health and Disease

Human Baroreflexes in Health and Disease PDF Author: Dwain L. Eckberg
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 596

Book Description
Nerve endings in the walls of the carotid sinuses and the aortic arch transduce arterial pressure changes and provide the central nervous system with a steady stream of encoded information. On the basis of this information, efferent autonomic neural activity is modulated finely, and the neurohumoral milieu of the heart and the blood vessels is adjusted on a second-to-second basis. The arterial baroreflex may be the most important of the cardiovascular control mechanisms, because the baroreflex, above all other reflex mechanisms, is the one whose speed is most adequate to respond rapidly to the abrupt transients of arterial pressure that occur in daily life. This volume presents the many experimental methods available for use in humans that have been recently developed. Some are ingenious and yield results that earlier might have been thought impossible to obtain from human volunteers. Development of these new methods has increased the scientific credibility of human baroreflex research, and this work discusses the advances made in these studies. It clearly describes the existing deficiencies in the understanding of baroreflex mechanisms, and suggests methods for future research in this developing field.
