Book Description
The results of a synthetic program directed towards the preparation of IVth main group organometallic polymers are presented. The main body of the report is concerned with the synthesis of linear polymers having a carbon chain regularly interrupted by tin (and in some cases other IVth group) atoms Such polymers have been obtained by means of true poly-addition reactions (hydrogen transfer polymerization) involving an organotin dihydride and either a dienic or a diynic or a monoyni C coumpound The synthesis of lVth group organometal-substituted polystyrenes carbon chain polymers containing the organometallic moiety as a substituent group as well as of a series of poly-p-phenylenesilanes-polymers consisting of chains of p-phenylene groups connected by dialkyl(aryl) silane groups are dealt with briefly.

Book Description
Linear organotin polymers with molecular weights in the range of 45000 to 100000 were obtained by poly-addition reactions involving organotin dihydrides and alpha, omega-diynes, such as hexadiyne-1,5, nonadiyne-1,8, and 1,4-diethynylbenzene. A number of 1-stannacycloheptadiene-2,6 derivatives (cyclic monomers derived from hexadiyne-1,5) were isolated. (Author).

Organometallic Polymers

Organometallic Polymers PDF Author: Charles E. Jr. Carraher
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0323153909
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 368

Book Description
Organometallic Polymers focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and potential applications of organometallic polymers. The discussion is organized around seven themes: vinyl polymerization of organometallic monomers; condensation polymerization of organometallic monomers; polymer-bound catalysts; applications of organotin polymers; developments in organosilicon polymers; phosphonitrile and sulfur nitride polymers; and coordination polymers. This book is comprised of 33 chapters and begins with a general review of polymerized vinyl monomers containing transition metals, as well as the reactivity of such monomers in addition to homo- and copolymerizations. The following chapters explore the participation of the ferrocene nucleus in the polymerization of vinylferrocene and its effect on polymer properties; thermomechanical transitions of ferrocene-containing polymers; photocrosslinkable organometallic polyesters; and supported catalysts for ethylene polymerization. The remaining sections discuss antifouling applications of various tin-containing organometallic polymers; structure and applications of polyphosphazenes and polymeric sulfur nitride; and coordination of inorganic ions to polymers. This monograph will be a useful resource for organic chemists and research workers in the field.

The Synthesis of Ivth Group Organometallic Polymers and Related Compounds

The Synthesis of Ivth Group Organometallic Polymers and Related Compounds PDF Author: A. J. LEUSINK
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 103

Book Description
The synthesis and characterization are described of linear polymers, having a carbon chain regularly interrupted by the Group IV elements silicon, germanium, tin or lead. Such polymers were obtained by means of: (1) poly-addition reactions involving an organotin dihydride and either a dienic, a diynic or a monoynic compound; (2) Wurtz-type poly-condensations involving appropriate combinations of p-chlorophenyl and chloro derivatives of the Group IV elements. The synthesis and polymerization of vinyl-type IVth group organometallic monomers is dealt with briefly. Furthermore, interesting IVth group metal-containing heterocyoles were prepared and also a few polymers, containing in addition to Group IV atoms other hetero-elements in their backbone. All polymer-forming reactions have been studied by carrying out model reactions on a low-molecular weight level. (Author).

Modification of Polymers

Modification of Polymers PDF Author: Charles E. Carraher
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461337488
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 414

Book Description
The sheer volume of topics which could have been included under our general title prompted us to make some rather arbitrary decisions about content. Modification by irradiation is not included because the activity in this area is being treated elsewhere. We have chosen to emphasize chemical routes to modification and have striven to pre sent as balanced a representation of current activity as time and page count permit. Industrial applications, both real and potential, are included. Where appropriate, we have encouraged the contributors to include review material to help provide the reader with adequate context. The initial chapter is a review from a historical perspective of polymer modification and contains an extensive bibliography. The remainder of the book is divided into four general areas: Reactions and Preparation of Copolymers Reactions and Preparation of Block and Graft Copolymers Modification Through Condensation Reactions Applications The chemical modification of homopolymers such as polyvinylchlo ride, polyethylene, poly(chloroalkylene sulfides), polysulfones, poly chloromethylstyrene, polyisobutylene, polysodium acrylate, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl chloroformate, sulfonated polystyrene; block and graft copolymers such as poly(styrene-block-ethylene-co-butylene block-styrene), poly(I,4-polybutadiene-block ethylene oxide), star chlorine-telechelic polyisobutylene, poly(isobutylene-co-2,3-dimethyl- 1,3-butadiene), poly(styrene-co-N-butylmethacrylate); cellulose, dex tran and inulin, is described.
