Book Description
Symposium K, "Nanostructures, Thin Films and Bulk Oxides-Synthesis, Characterization and Applications" and Symposium RR, "Solution Synthesis of Inorganic Functional Materials" were held April 21-25 at the 2014 MRS Spring Meeting in San Francisco, California. Oxide materials from bulk down to nanostructures are used for applications in microelectronics, communications, sensing, energy, catalysis, nanophotonics, and optoelectronics. As the characteristic dimensions of oxide systems shrink into the nanometer range, there are increased technological challenges for synthesis, processing, and characterization to ensure high uniformity, reproducibility, and cost reduction. This symposium proceedings volume represents the recent advances in various areas of deposition, processing, characterization, and integration of functional oxide materials, with particular emphasis on the relationship among the structure, composition, stability and functional properties. The papers are divided into three sections: (1) ZnO Thin Films and Nanostructures, (2) Multiferroics, Magnetism, and Magnetic Materials and (3) Oxide Thin Films and Nanostructures.

Synthesis and Modification of Nanostructured Thin Films

Synthesis and Modification of Nanostructured Thin Films PDF Author: Ion N. Mihailescu
Publisher: MDPI
ISBN: 3039284541
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 276

Book Description
The Special Issue “Synthesis and Modification of Nanostructured Thin Films” highlights the recent progress in thin film synthesis/modification and characterization. New methods are reviewed for the synthesis and/or modification of thin films based on laser, magnetron, chemical, and other techniques. The obtained thin nanostructures are characterized by complex and complementary techniques. We think that most of proposed methods can be directly applied in production, but some others still need further elaboration for long-term prospective applications in lasers, optics, materials, electronics, informatics, telecommunications, biology, medicine, and probably many other domains. The Guest Editor and the MDPI staff are therefore pleased to offer this Special Issue to interested readers, including graduate and PhD students as well as postdoctoral researchers, but also to the entire community interested in the field of nanomaterials. We share the conviction that this can serve as a useful tool for updating the literature, but also to aid in the conception of new production and/or research programs. There is plenty of room for further dedicated R&D advances based on new instruments and materials under development.

Synthesis, Characterization and Properties of Nanostructures

Synthesis, Characterization and Properties of Nanostructures PDF Author: Prafulla K. Jha
Publisher: Trans Tech Publications Ltd
ISBN: 3038132888
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 202

Book Description
Reducing the dimensions of contiguous matter, down to the nanometer scale, confines the electronic and vibrational wavefunctions and results in unique properties which open up a wide vista of potential applications in optics, mechanics, electrical engineering, magnetic devices, catalysis and biomedicine. Nanostructures, characterized by having at least one dimension in the nanometer range, are considered to be a bridge between single molecules and their bulk counterparts. The challenge for nanotechnology is to achieve perfect control of the nanoscale-related properties; which obviously requires correlating the parameters of synthesis with the resultant nanostructures. Nanostructures are also ideal subjects for computer simulation and modeling: in computations related to nanomaterials, one deals with a spatial scaling ranging from a few nanometers to a few micrometers and a time-scaling ranging from a few femto-seconds (fs) to 1 second - with a limit of accuracy better than 1 kcal mol-1.
