US–China Foreign Relations

US–China Foreign Relations PDF Author: Robert S. Ross
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1000204693
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 172

Book Description
This book examines the power transition between the US and China, and the implications for Europe and Asia in a new era of uncertainty. The volume addresses the impact that the rise of China has on the United States, Europe, transatlantic relations, and East Asia. China is seeking to use its enhanced power position to promote new ambitions; the United States is adjusting to a new superpower rivalry; and the power shift from the West to the East is resulting in a more peripheral role for Europe in world affairs. Featuring essays by prominent Chinese and international experts, the book examines the US–China rivalry, the changing international system, grand strategies and geopolitics, foreign policy, geo-economics and institutions, and military and technological developments. The chapters examine how strategic, security, and military considerations in this triangular relationship are gradually undermining trade and economics, reversing the era of globalization, and contributing to the breakdown of the US-led liberal order and institutions that will be difficult to rebuild. The volume also examines whether the adversarial antagonism in US–China relations, the tension in transatlantic ties, and the increasing rivalry in Europe–China relations are primarily resulting from leaders’ ambitions or structural power shifts. This book will be of much interest to students of Asian security, US foreign policy, European politics, and International Relations in general.

Changing Relations of Welfare

Changing Relations of Welfare PDF Author: Åsa Lundqvist
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1317168518
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 223

Book Description
Changing Relations of Welfare is concerned with the complexities of family relations and practices in the recent past and how these have been imagined, addressed or elided in present policy making. It uses rich and varied sources to offer an innovative approach to the analysis of meanings afforded to the family in different policy, legal and welfare contexts in Sweden, Denmark and Britain. This book considers how debates about responsibility, obligation and rights have been gendered in social policy and welfare practice, whilst also focusing upon the intersections of family, gender, race and ethnicity and the different ways in which legislation and policy in northern Europe have been used to regulate not only immigration but also the lives of migrant families. Presenting a historically informed, comparative analysis of the shifting dynamics in the relationship between family and the state, this volume offers new pathways for exploring questions of change and continuity.

Uncovering Changing Relations in Financial and Monetary Economics

Uncovering Changing Relations in Financial and Monetary Economics PDF Author: Barbara Meller
Publisher: Tectum Wissenschaftsverlag
ISBN: 3828852173
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 123

Book Description
In her doctoral thesis, Barbara Meller compiles her work on applied econometrics focusing on policy decision making in financial and monetary economics. In the first part of the book, the effect of financial globalization on the volatility of economic growth is empirically examined in a large sample of countries. The analysis provides clear criteria which countries should fulfill in order to benefit from financial globalization in terms of reduced volatility. In general, financial globalization is more favorable for countries with a higher ability to repay debt. The focus of the second part of the book is inflation persistence which is measured using long-memory techniques. As inflation persistence is one of the most crucial parameters affecting monetary policy, the analyses have important implications for the evaluation and conduct of monetary policy. In particular, the impact of the formation of the European Central Bank on inflation persistence is analyzed using panel fractional integration estimation. It is concluded that inflation persistence has decreased probably as a result of the more effective monetary policy of the ECB. Moreover, a new test to find a break in long-run persistence at unknown timing is introduced. Applied to US inflation rate, the test indicates that persistence has increased in 1973 and decreased in 1980.
