Global sourcing is prevailing in practice because multinational buyers can collaborate with suppliers in emerging economies who are more competitive in production costs than local suppliers. But accompanying the cost savings the buyers obtain through outsourcing, several issues arise. Because of geographical distances and differences in economic and socio-cultural environments, buyers do not have much control over overseas suppliers' social and environmental performance.
