Book Description
LES RAPPORTS EXISTANT ENTRE LE LANGAGE ET LA PENSEE SONT ICI ETUDIES DANS LE CADRE D'UNE COMPARAISON DU DEVELOPPEMENT COGNITIF D'ENFANTS SOURDS ET ENTENDANTS. PLUSIEURS DOMAINES DU DEVELOPPEMENT SONT ETUDIES, PLUS PARTICULIEREMENT LA CATEGORISATION, L'ACQUISITION D'UNE COMPREHENSION DE L'ESPRIT EN TANT QUE GENERATEUR DE REPRESENTATIONS (THEORIES DE L'ESPRIT) ET LE DEVELOPPEMENT DE CAPACITES DE SELECTION ET COORDINATION DE CES REPRESENTATIONS (FONCTIONS EXECUTIVES). LA COMPARAISON D'ENFANTS ENTENDANTS A DIVERS GROUPES D'ENFANTS SOURDS AGES DE 5 A 8 ANS, CONSIDERES NOTAMMENT SELON LEUR MODE DE COMMUNICATION ET L'ETIOLOGIE DE LEUR SURDITE, PERMET ALORS DE SEPARER LES EFFETS DE DIFFERENTS FACTEURS (EXPOSITION PRECOCE A UN SYSTEME LINGUISTIQUE, COMMUNICATION EN LANGUE DES SIGNES, MATURATION CEREBRALE, ETC.) SUSCEPTIBLES DE DETERMINER L'ACQUISITION DES CAPACITES COGNITIVES ETUDIEES. L'IMPORTANCE DE QUELQUES UNS DE CES FACTEURS EST AINSI MISE EN EVIDENCE. LA LANGUE DES SIGNES SE REVELE AVOIR UNE INFLUENCE SUR LE DEVELOPPEMENT COGNITIF DES ENFANTS SOURDS, SANS POUR AUTANT PALLIER TOUTES LES CONSEQUENCES D'UN ENVIRONNEMENT NON OPTIMAL EN JEUNE AGE, AMENANT A DEVOIR CONSIDERER "COGNITIVEMENT A RISQUE" LES ENFANTS SOURDS NES DE PARENTS ENTENDANTS, TOUT EN REJETANT L'IDEE D'UNE "PSYCHOLOGIE DE L'ENFANT SOURD".

Context, Cognition, and Deafness
Author: M. Diane Clark
Publisher: Gallaudet University Press
ISBN: 9781563681059
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 232
Book Description
This sharply focused volume on the cognitive development of deaf children calls upon experts in anthropology, psychology, linguistics, basic visual sensory processes, education, cognition, and neurophysiology to share complementary observations. William C. Stokoe's "Deafness, Cognition, and Language" leads fluidly into Jeffery P. Braden's analysis of clinical assessments of deaf people's cognitive abilities. Margaret Wilson expands on the impact of sign language expertise on visual perception. The study and analysis of Italian deaf preschoolers with hearing families presented by Elena Pizzuto, Barbara Ardito, Maria Cristina Caselli, and Virginia Volterra chronicles fascinating insights on the children's cognition and language development. Context, Cognition, and Deafness also shows that theory can intersect practice, as displayed by editor Marschark and Jennifer Lukomski in their research on literacy, cognition, and education. Amy R. Lederberg and Patricia E. Spencer have combined sequential designs in their study of vocabulary learning. Ethan Remmel, Jeffrey Bettger, and Amy Weinberg explore the theory of mind development. The emotional development of deaf children also receives detailed consideration by Colin D. Gray, Judith A. Hosie, Phil A. Russell, and Ellen A. Ormel. Kathryn P. Meadow-Orlans delineates her perspective on the coming of age of deaf children in relation to their education and development. Marschark concludes with insightful impressions on the future of theory and application, an appropriate close to this exceptional, coherent volume.

The Sounds of Early Cinema
Author: Richard Abel
Publisher: Indiana University Press
ISBN: 9780253108708
Category : Performing Arts
Languages : en
Pages : 350
Book Description
The Sounds of Early Cinema is devoted exclusively to a little-known, yet absolutely crucial phenomenon: the ubiquitous presence of sound in early cinema. "Silent cinema" may rarely have been silent, but the sheer diversity of sound(s) and sound/image relations characterizing the first 20 years of moving picture exhibition can still astonish us. Whether instrumental, vocal, or mechanical, sound ranged from the improvised to the pre-arranged (as in scripts, scores, and cue sheets). The practice of mixing sounds with images differed widely, depending on the venue (the nickelodeon in Chicago versus the summer Chautauqua in rural Iowa, the music hall in London or Paris versus the newest palace cinema in New York City) as well as on the historical moment (a single venue might change radically, and many times, from 1906 to 1910). Contributors include Richard Abel, Rick Altman, Edouard Arnoldy, Mats Björkin, Stephen Bottomore, Marta Braun, Jean Châteauvert, Ian Christie, Richard Crangle, Helen Day-Mayer, John Fullerton, Jane Gaines, André Gaudreault, Tom Gunning, François Jost, Charlie Keil, Jeff Klenotic, Germain Lacasse, Neil Lerner, Patrick Loughney, David Mayer, Domi-nique Nasta, Bernard Perron, Jacques Polet, Lauren Rabinovitz, Isabelle Raynauld, Herbert Reynolds, Gregory A. Waller, and Rashit M. Yangirov.
