Supplementary Feeding of Sheep and Beef Cattle

Supplementary Feeding of Sheep and Beef Cattle PDF Author: David G Hinton
Publisher: Landlinks Press
ISBN: 0643099611
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 102

Book Description
This practical guide is a tool designed for graziers to use in their day-to-day decision-making about livestock nutritional needs, feeding options, condition and health. Pasture supplements are expensive and should not be wasted, yet under-nutrition has an even greater economic effect resulting from low conception and progeny survival rates, poor growth rates, failure to meet market targets and tender fleeces in sheep. Supplementary Feeding of Sheep and Beef Cattle shows how to get the nutritional balance right and avoid costly repercussions from incorrect or inadequate feeding. The key topics covered will be particularly useful in drought situations, but also in seasonal pasture shortages, when the nutrient value of pastures is low. Practical tables and worksheets are provided as key tools, enabling livestock producers to make timely and cost-effective decisions about supplementary feeding.

Feeding Infants and Children from Birth to 24 Months

Feeding Infants and Children from Birth to 24 Months PDF Author: National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 0309675383
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 349

Book Description
Recommendations for feeding infants and young children have changed substantially over time owing to scientific advances, cultural influences, societal trends, and other factors. At the same time, stronger approaches to reviewing and synthesizing scientific evidence have evolved, such that there are now established protocols for developing evidence-based health recommendations. However, not all authoritative bodies have used such approaches for developing infant feeding guidance, and for many feeding questions there is little or no sound evidence available to guide best practices, despite the fact that research on infant and young child feeding has expanded in recent decades. Summarizing the current landscape of feeding recommendations for infants and young children can reveal the level of consistency of existing guidance, shed light on the types of evidence that underpin each recommendation, and provide insight into the feasibility of harmonizing guidelines. Feeding Infants and Children from Birth to 24 Months collects, compares, and summarizes existing recommendations on what and how to feed infants and young children from birth to 24 months of age. This report makes recommendations to stakeholders on strategies for communicating and disseminating feeding recommendations.

Book Description
Testing of a whey-soy beverage powder was carried out in Chile, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Sierra Leone and the Dominican Republic to determine its probable acceptability for use as a supplementary food for pre-school children. Test results indicated that the beverage powder should be acceptable in all test countries except possible Sierra Leone. Moreover, since the tests were carried out in a variety of geographical areas and cultures and in several types of distribution systems, it may be concluded that there is a high probability that the beverage powder will be acceptable in pre-school child feeding programs in most parts of the developing world.

Lipid Nutrient Supplement of Spirulina for Malnutrition PDF Author: Vijay Dhondiram Wagh
Publisher: FSP Media Publications
ISBN:
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 141

Book Description
In this book, we have reported the formulation of a nutritious, highly acceptable LNS-RUSF of Spirulina with a shelf stability of at least 06 months. This is likely to provide an affordable alternative RUSF for treatment of children with SAM in developing countries if proved efficacious in ongoing randomized trials. The use of diversified, locally available ingredients is likely to stimulate small scale agriculture and hence, encourage self-reliance among food crop producers in resource-poor settings.
