Teaching Tech Together

Teaching Tech Together PDF Author: Greg Wilson
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1000728153
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 229

Book Description
Hundreds of grassroots groups have sprung up around the world to teach programming, web design, robotics, and other skills outside traditional classrooms. These groups exist so that people don't have to learn these things on their own, but ironically, their founders and instructors are often teaching themselves how to teach. There's a better way. This book presents evidence-based practices that will help you create and deliver lessons that work and build a teaching community around them. Topics include the differences between different kinds of learners, diagnosing and correcting misunderstandings, teaching as a performance art, what motivates and demotivates adult learners, how to be a good ally, fostering a healthy community, getting the word out, and building alliances with like-minded groups. The book includes over a hundred exercises that can be done individually or in groups, over 350 references, and a glossary to help you navigate educational jargon.

Without Criteria

Without Criteria PDF Author: Steven Shaviro
Publisher: MIT Press
ISBN: 0262517973
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 191

Book Description
A Deleuzian reading of Whitehead and a Whiteheadian reading of Deleuze open the possibility of a critical aesthetics of contemporary culture. In Without Criteria, Steven Shaviro proposes and explores a philosophical fantasy: imagine a world in which Alfred North Whitehead takes the place of Martin Heidegger. What if Whitehead, instead of Heidegger, had set the agenda for postmodern thought? Heidegger asks, “Why is there something, rather than nothing?” Whitehead asks, “How is it that there is always something new?” In a world where everything from popular music to DNA is being sampled and recombined, argues Shaviro, Whitehead's question is the truly urgent one. Without Criteria is Shaviro's experiment in rethinking postmodern theory, especially the theory of aesthetics, from a point of view that hearkens back to Whitehead rather than Heidegger. In working through the ideas of Whitehead and Deleuze, Shaviro also appeals to Kant, arguing that certain aspects of Kant's thought pave the way for the philosophical “constructivism” embraced by both Whitehead and Deleuze. Kant, Whitehead, and Deleuze are not commonly grouped together, but the juxtaposition of them in Without Criteria helps to shed light on a variety of issues that are of concern to contemporary art and media practices.

Book Description
The North American Mosaic has four overarching features. First, it is, to the extent feasible, based on comparable information on the status and trends of major indicators of the state of the environment in Canada,Mexico, and the United States. Second, the report confirms that these three countries together make up an incredibly complex, dynamic, and interconnected ecosystem in which humans play a dominant and decisive role. Third, the report raises important and sometimes disquieting questions concerning the sustainability of some current trends. Finally, the report is a reminder that our economic, social, and physical well-being are utterly dependent on the life-sustaining services provided by nature. This report emphasizes the importance of developing mutually compatible economic, social, and environmental goals and policies across the three-country region.

Book Description
DESCRIPTION OF THE ORIGINAL BOOK. Thinking, fast and slow is a book in which we ́re presented with a synthesis of studies carried out by the author, Daniel Kahneman. Daniel won a Economics Nobel Prize award. The main topic of the book is the way humans think, which influences our daily lives. The work presents the dichotomy between two ways of thinking, which the author calls 'systems'. The first system is fast, instinctive and emotional, the second one is slow, more rational and logical. Each of these entails cognitive and behavioural characteristics. From a highly original and logical hypothesis, a vision is presented which shapes the routine of decision-making that people make in their daily lives. This book is recommended for professionals in the psychology field. As well as for anyone interested in knowing themselves better and the processes involved in their decisions, with the means to acquire tools which allow them to reach the path leading to their happiness.
