Coal Science

Coal Science PDF Author: Martin L. Gorbaty
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 1483191567
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 313

Book Description
Coal Science, Volume 2 presents and evaluates the fundamental scientific areas involved with the structure, reactivity, and utilization of coal. This book reviews the coal's inorganic structure and reactivity and the role that ionic bonding plays in coal's chemical and physical structure and reactivity. Organized into four chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the area of mineral matter in coal and a critical survey of many specific aspects that are most intriguing scientifically. This text then examines the role of the solvent in the initial stage of coal liquefaction. Other chapters consider the primary products of decomposed plant matter, which are transformed into the various ranks of coals through a series of evolutionary changes. The final chapter deals with solvent extraction, which is the most commonly used methods for studying the chemical properties of coal. This book is a valuable resource for chemists, engineers, and research workers.

Catalysis in Coal Conversion

Catalysis in Coal Conversion PDF Author: James Cusumano
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0323157629
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 287

Book Description
Catalysis in Coal Conversion tells of the advances in catalysis and related fields in order to suggest decisive contributions towards finding solutions for the catalytic problems of coal conversion. The book also details the preparation, mode of action, and behavior of various catalysts. The book is divided into three major parts, the first of which discusses the advances of catalysis during the last two decades including the bimetallic catalysts. Other areas of interest covered in the first part include characterization and preparation of catalysts; poisoning and regeneration; and reaction mechanisms. Part II summarizes the developments of related disciplines such as reactor engineering, inorganic and organometallic chemistry, materials science, and surface science. The last part serves as a review of the nature of the different coal liquefaction processes and their products. This book is of value to chemists and chemical engineers involved in coal conversion or fuel processing researches. Chemistry teachers and students can also use this book for examples of practical applications in industrial catalysis.

Coal Combustion and Gasification

Coal Combustion and Gasification PDF Author: L.Douglas Smoot
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1475797214
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 450

Book Description
The use of coal is required to help satisfy the world's energy needs. Yet coal is a difficult fossil fuel to consume efficiently and cleanly. We believe that its clean and efficient use can be increased through improved technology based on a thorough understanding of fundamental physical and chemical processes that occur during consumption. The principal objective of this book is to provide a current summary of this technology. The past technology for describing and analyzing coal furnaces and combus tors has relied largely on empirical inputs for the complex flow and chemical reactions that occur while more formally treating the heat-transfer effects. GrOWing concern over control of combustion-generated air pollutants revealed a lack of understanding of the relevant fundamental physical and chemical mechanisms. Recent technical advances in computer speed and storage capacity, and in numerical prediction of recirculating turbulent flows, two-phase flows, and flows with chemical reaction have opened new opportunities for describing and modeling such complex combustion systems in greater detail. We believe that most of the requisite component models to permit a more fundamental description of coal combustion processes are available. At the same time there is worldwide interest in the use of coal, and progress in modeling of coal reaction processes has been steady.
