Electrochemical Reactions and Mechanisms in Organic Chemistry

Electrochemical Reactions and Mechanisms in Organic Chemistry PDF Author: J. Grimshaw
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080530729
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 415

Book Description
Electrochemical reactions make significant contributions to organic synthesis either in the laboratory or on an industrial scale. These methods have the potential for developing more "green" chemical synthesis. Over recent years, modern investigations have clarified the mechanisms of important organic electrochemical reactions. Progress has also been made in controlling the reactivity of intermediates through either radical or ionic pathways. Now is the time to gather all the electrochemical work into a textbook. As an essential addition to the armory of synthetic organic chemists, electrochemical reactions give results not easily achieved by many other chemical routes. This book presents a logical development of reactions and mechanisms in organic electrochemistry at a level suited to research scientists and final year graduate students. It forms an excellent starting point from which synthetic organic chemists, in both academia and industry, can appreciate uses for electrochemical methods in their own work. The book is also a reference guide to the literature.

Phosphine-promoted Cross-coupling Reactions of Propargylcopper Reagents and Alkenyl Iodides and the Total Synthesis of ( - )-gloeosporone Via Nickel-catalyzed Epoxide-alkyne Reductive Macrocyclization

Book Description
(Cont.) Additional nickel-catalyzed macrocyclization studies of alkynes and epoxides were undertaken with other alkynylepoxides. With these studies we were able to recognize an important structural pattern (a 6,e-unsaturated ynoate) which might be necessary for efficient cyclization. Using this information, the nickel-catalyzed reductive cyclization of alkynes and epoxides was extended to the formation of 12- and 15-membered rings.

Comprehensive Chirality

Comprehensive Chirality PDF Author:
Publisher: Newnes
ISBN: 0080951686
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 5635

Book Description
Although many books exist on the subject of chiral chemistry, they only briefly cover chiral synthesis and analysis as a minor part of a larger work, to date there are none that pull together the background information and latest advances in one comprehensive reference work. Comprehensive Chirality provides a complete overview of the field, and includes chiral research relevant to synthesis, analytic chemistry, catalysis, and pharmaceuticals. The individual chapters in each of the 9 volumes provide an in depth review and collection of references on definition, technology, applications and a guide/links to the related literature. Whether in an Academic or Corporate setting, these chapters will form an invaluable resource for advanced students/researchers new to an area and those who need further background or answers to a particular problem, particularly in the development of drugs. Chirality research today is a central theme in chemistry and biology and is growing in importance across a number of disciplinary boundaries. These studies do not always share a unique identifying factor or subject themselves to clear and concise definitions. This work unites the different areas of research and allows anyone working or researching in chiral chemistry to navigate through the most essential concepts with ease, saving them time and vastly improving their understanding. The field of chirality counts several journals that are directly and indirectly concerned with the field. There is no reference work that encompasses the entire field and unites the different areas of research through deep foundational reviews. Comprehensive Chirality fills this vacuum, and can be considered the definitive work. It will help users apply context to the diverse journal literature offering and aid them in identifying areas for further research and/or for solving problems. Chief Editors, Hisashi Yamamoto (University of Chicago) and Erick Carreira (ETH Zürich) have assembled an impressive, world-class team of Volume Editors and Contributing Authors. Each chapter has been painstakingly reviewed and checked for consistent high quality. The result is an authoritative overview which ties the literature together and provides the user with a reliable background information and citation resource.

Microwaves in Chemistry Applications

Microwaves in Chemistry Applications PDF Author: Aparna Das
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0128230851
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 412

Book Description
Microwaves in Chemistry Applications: Fundamentals, Methods and Future Trends offers a number of benefits over conventional heating technologies, including acceleration of reaction rates, milder reaction conditions, higher chemical yields, lower energy usage and different reaction selectivity, all of which can improve the sustainability of processes. The book provides valuable insights into the underlying chemistry at play in microwave-assisted processes, introducing fundamental concepts, discussing the modeling of reactions in such processes, and also highlighting a range of key methods and applications of microwaves in chemistry for improved sustainability. Beginning with an introduction to microwave chemistry, Part One discusses foundational principles, equipment and approaches for modeling reactions and assessing the outputs of those models. Methods in microwave chemistry are then the focus of Part Two, with microwave-assisted synthesis, catalysis, reduction and reactions all explored in detail. Part Three reflects on the practical usage of these methods to address specific issues, covering a number of interesting applications. Provides guidance on the modeling and interpretation of microwave effects Discusses microwave chemistry in the context of green chemistry principles Outlines a range of important microwave methods, including microwave-assisted synthesis, catalysis, reactions and reductions
