Speckled leaf blotch is part of a complex of leaf spot diseases that can cause significant yield losses in Saskatchewan wheat. This report describes a project undertaken to determine the feasibility of breeding varieties of wheat resistant to speckled leaf blotch. A collection of 111 wheat cultivars was screened for resistance to the disease-causing fungus, Septoria tritici, and qualitative studies were performed to determine inheritance of resistance. Heritability estimates of resistance, as measured by percentage leaf necrosis, were calculated by three methods for four wheat crosses.
