Book Description
ABSTRACT: In this thesis we apply computer based simulation techniques to tackle large N_c quantum field theory on the light-cone. The basis for the investigation was set by Bardakci and Thorn in 2002 when they showed how planar diagrams of such theories could be mapped into the dynamics of a world-sheet. We call such a reformulated field theory a Lightcone World Sheet. The Lightcone World Sheet formalism offers a new view on light-cone field theories which allows for applications of string-theory techniques, thereby greatly augmenting the machinery available for investigating such theories. As an investigation of the Lightcone World Sheet itself the current work presents stochastic modelling techniques as a means of clarifying the formalism and developing intuition for further work. Seen as an investigation of the underlying quantum field theory, the approach taken here is to capitalize on the only two dimensions of the world-sheet as opposed to the four dimensions of the field theory.

Space – Time – Matter

Space – Time – Matter PDF Author: Jochen Brüning
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG
ISBN: 3110451530
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 590

Book Description
This monograph describes some of the most interesting results obtained by the mathematicians and physicists collaborating in the CRC 647 "Space – Time – Matter", in the years 2005 - 2016. The work presented concerns the mathematical and physical foundations of string and quantum field theory as well as cosmology. Important topics are the spaces and metrics modelling the geometry of matter, and the evolution of these geometries. The partial differential equations governing such structures and their singularities, special solutions and stability properties are discussed in detail. Contents Introduction Algebraic K-theory, assembly maps, controlled algebra, and trace methods Lorentzian manifolds with special holonomy – Constructions and global properties Contributions to the spectral geometry of locally homogeneous spaces On conformally covariant differential operators and spectral theory of the holographic Laplacian Moduli and deformations Vector bundles in algebraic geometry and mathematical physics Dyson–Schwinger equations: Fix-point equations for quantum fields Hidden structure in the form factors ofN = 4 SYM On regulating the AdS superstring Constraints on CFT observables from the bootstrap program Simplifying amplitudes in Maxwell-Einstein and Yang-Mills-Einstein supergravities Yangian symmetry in maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory Wave and Dirac equations on manifolds Geometric analysis on singular spaces Singularities and long-time behavior in nonlinear evolution equations and general relativity

Supersymmetry and String Theory

Supersymmetry and String Theory PDF Author: Michael Dine
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 113946244X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 481

Book Description
The past decade has witnessed dramatic developments in the field of theoretical physics. This book is a comprehensive introduction to these recent developments. It contains a review of the Standard Model, covering non-perturbative topics, and a discussion of grand unified theories and magnetic monopoles. It introduces the basics of supersymmetry and its phenomenology, and includes dynamics, dynamical supersymmetry breaking, and electric-magnetic duality. The book then covers general relativity and the big bang theory, and the basic issues in inflationary cosmologies before discussing the spectra of known string theories and the features of their interactions. The book also includes brief introductions to technicolor, large extra dimensions, and the Randall-Sundrum theory of warped spaces. This will be of great interest to graduates and researchers in the fields of particle theory, string theory, astrophysics and cosmology. The book contains several problems, and password protected solutions will be available to lecturers at www.cambridge.org/9780521858410.
