Book Description
Superconducting boron-doped diamond samples were synthesized with isotopes of 1°B, 11B, 13C and 12C. We claim the presence of a carbon isotope effect on the superconducting transition temperature, which supports the 'diamond-carbon'-related nature of superconductivity and the importance of the electron-phonon interaction as the mechanism of superconductivity in diamond. Isotope substitution permits us to relate almost all bands in the Raman spectra of heavily boron-doped diamond to the vibrations of carbon atoms. The 500 cm°1 Raman band shifts with either carbon or boron isotope substitution and may be associated with vibrations of paired or clustered boron. The absence of a superconducting transition (down to 1.6 K) in diamonds synthesized in the Co-C-B system at 1900 K correlates with the small boron concentration deduced from lattice parameters.

Physics and Applications of CVD Diamond

Physics and Applications of CVD Diamond PDF Author: Satoshi Koizumi
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 9783527408016
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 386

Book Description
Here, leading scientists report on why and how diamond can be optimized for applications in bioelectronic and electronics. They cover such topics as growth techniques, new and conventional doping mechanisms, superconductivity in diamond, and excitonic properties, while application aspects include quantum electronics at room temperature, biosensors as well as diamond nanocantilevers and SAWs. Written in a review style to make the topic accessible for a wider community of scientists working in interdisciplinary fields with backgrounds in physics, chemistry, biology and engineering, this is essential reading for everyone working in environments that involve conventional electronics, biotechnology, quantum computing, quantum cryptography, superconductivity and light emission from highly excited excitonic systems.

Handbook of Carbon, Graphite, Diamonds and Fullerenes

Handbook of Carbon, Graphite, Diamonds and Fullerenes PDF Author: Hugh O. Pierson
Publisher: William Andrew
ISBN: 0815517394
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 420

Book Description
This book is a review of the science and technology of the element carbon and its allotropes: graphite, diamond and the fullerenes. This field has expanded greatly in the last three decades stimulated by many major discoveries such as carbon fibers, low-pressure diamond, and the fullerenes. The need for such a book has been felt for some time. These carbon materials are very different in structure and properties. Some are very old (charcoal), others brand new (the fullerenes). They have different applications and markets and are produced by different segments of the industry.Few studies are available that attempt to review the entire field of carbon as a whole discipline. Moreover these studies were written several decades ago and a generally outdated since the development of the technology is moving very rapidly and scope of applications is constantly expanding and reaching into new fields such as aerospace, automotive, semiconductors, optics, and electronics. In this book the author provides a valuable, up-to-date account of both the newer and traditional forms of carbon, both naturally occurring and man-made. This volume will be a valuable resource for both specialists in, and occasional users of carbon materials.

Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectrometry

Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectrometry PDF Author: Richard Payling
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 904

Book Description
Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectrometry (GD-OES) is rapidly becoming one of the most important techniques for the direct analysis of solids. This, the first book entirely devoted to the subject, represents the combined contributions of over 30 specialists from around the world. All contributors are active in the field and recognised internationally for their expertise and knowledge in GD-OES. The book begins with an introductory overview of the subjects, deals with the design of the instrument, its operation and analytical methods and describes in detail the complex plasma processes which occur inside the glow discharge source. The second part of the book is more practically orientated, showing the full range of uses for GD-OES from the bulk analysis of virtually any solid material to depth profiling within the first tens of micrometres of a variety of surfaces and coatings. Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectrometry is intended for a wide audience of scientists, engineers and postgraduate students and will be a valuable and challenging reference work for both experienced users of the technique and newcomers alike.

Boron Hydride Chemistry

Boron Hydride Chemistry PDF Author: Earl Muetterties
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 032314649X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 545

Book Description
Boron Hydride Chemistry covers the significant contributions of boron hydride research in the subjects of bonding, structure, and stereochemistry. This book contains 12 chapters that illustrate the merging of certain areas of boron hydride chemistry with other disciplines, such as organic, organometallic, and transition metal chemistry. After providing an overview of the general geometric, stereochemical, and dynamic stereochemical features of boron hydrides, this book goes on exploring the bonding theory and theoretical research on boron hydrides, with an emphasis on boron hydrides that have open polyhedral structures. These topics are followed by discussions on gas phase and solution reactions of borane and substituted boranes. A chapter focuses on the chemistry of cations containing boron atoms bonded to hydrogen. The remaining chapters examine the syntheses, structures, bonding, spectral properties, and chemistry of specific boron hydrides, including borazines, closo-boron hydrides, carboranes, icosahedral carboranes, and close- and nido-heteroboranes. Inorganic chemists and researchers, teachers, and undergraduate inorganic chemistry students will find this book invaluable.

The Physics of Semiconductors

The Physics of Semiconductors PDF Author: Marius Grundmann
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030515699
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 905

Book Description
The 4th edition of this highly successful textbook features copious material for a complete upper-level undergraduate or graduate course, guiding readers to the point where they can choose a specialized topic and begin supervised research. The textbook provides an integrated approach beginning from the essential principles of solid-state and semiconductor physics to their use in various classic and modern semiconductor devices for applications in electronics and photonics. The text highlights many practical aspects of semiconductors: alloys, strain, heterostructures, nanostructures, amorphous semiconductors, and noise, which are essential aspects of modern semiconductor research but often omitted in other textbooks. This textbook also covers advanced topics, such as Bragg mirrors, resonators, polarized and magnetic semiconductors, nanowires, quantum dots, multi-junction solar cells, thin film transistors, and transparent conductive oxides. The 4th edition includes many updates and chapters on 2D materials and aspects of topology. The text derives explicit formulas for many results to facilitate a better understanding of the topics. Having evolved from a highly regarded two-semester course on the topic, The Physics of Semiconductors requires little or no prior knowledge of solid-state physics. More than 2100 references guide the reader to historic and current literature including original papers, review articles and topical books, providing a go-to point of reference for experienced researchers as well.
