Dam Engineering

Dam Engineering PDF Author: Zhongzhi Fu
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 1839621575
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 206

Book Description
Dams are critical structures in the sense that damage or breach of even a small dam may cause an unacceptable loss of life and property. Therefore, the safety of dams over the intended lifespan is of utmost importance for unrestricted operation. The basic prerequisites for any safe and successful operation of a dam include state-of-the-art design, experimental investigations of the construction material and properties of the foundation, a refined theoretical analysis of relevant load cases, and high-quality construction. In the past decades, many advancements have been achieved in both construction technologies and design, including those for the prediction of the long-term behavior of dams under various loading conditions. As such, this book examines these advancements with respect to the design, construction, and performance of earth, rockfill, and concrete dams. Over eight chapters, this book provides a comprehensive overview of the latest progress and research in dam engineering.

Multi-physics Coupling Analysis of Clayey Core Wall of High Earth-Rockfill Dam

Multi-physics Coupling Analysis of Clayey Core Wall of High Earth-Rockfill Dam PDF Author: Yongkang Wu
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9811310327
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 148

Book Description
Nominated by Tsinghua University as an outstanding Ph.D. thesis, this book investigates the mechanical properties of unsaturated compacted clayey soil, the multi-field coupling consolidation theory of unsaturated soil and its application to a 261.5 m high earth-rockfill dam. It proposes a multi-field coupling analysis method of consolidation, and develops an efficient and practical finite element (FE) program for large-scale complex earth-rockfill dams. The book is primarily intended for researchers studying the multi-field coupling analysis of seepage consolidation.

Analysis of Deformation Behavior of an Asphalt Faced Rockfill Dam

Analysis of Deformation Behavior of an Asphalt Faced Rockfill Dam PDF Author: Unsever Yuksekol Ye Im Sema
Publisher: LAP Lambert Academic Publishing
ISBN: 9783659691591
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 108

Book Description
In this study, settlement and seepage behavior of Muratl Dam, which is the first asphalt faced rockfill dam in Turkey, is investigated for the "end of construction" and "reservoir impoundment" loading conditions. Two dimensional plane strain finite element analyses are carried out in order to determine the total stresses, displacements and pore water pressures. Hardening soil model is used in order to represent the non-linear, inelastic and stress dependent behavior of rockfill material. Material model parameters are selected mainly referring to the previous studies on the dams consisting of similar materials and then back analyses are carried out to find the best fit. Calculated stresses, displacements and pore water pressures are compared with the observed values for both end of construction and reservoir filling conditions."
