High Performance Concretes

High Performance Concretes PDF Author: Paul Zia
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Fiber-reinforced concrete
Languages : en
Pages : 262

Book Description
This state-of-the-art report summarizes the results of an extensive search and review of available literature on the mechanical properties of concrete, with particular reference to high performance concrete for highway applications. Included in the review and discussion are the behavior of plastic concrete as well as the strength and deformation characteristics of hardened concrete. Both short-term and long-term effects are considered. Based on the review of the available information, research needs are identified. It is concluded that much research is needed to develop data on the strength and durability properties of concrete which develops high strength, particularly very early strength.

Physical Properties and Behaviour of High-Performance Concrete at High Temperature

Physical Properties and Behaviour of High-Performance Concrete at High Temperature PDF Author: Pierre Pimienta
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319954326
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 152

Book Description
This book presents the work done by the RILEM Technical Committee 227-HPB (Physical properties and behaviour of High-Performance Concrete at high temperature). It contains the latest research results on the behaviour of high-performance concretes at high temperature. The book presents the state of the art of experimental data on High-Performance concretes and it collects and synthesizes useful data about concrete behaviour at high temperatures. The book is divided into independent chapters dealing with degradation reactions in concrete exposed to high temperatures; mass transport properties; thermal properties; and mechanical properties. The results presented especially target a group of users composed by universities and testing laboratories, building material companies and industries, material scientists and experts, building and infrastructure authorities, designers and civil engineers.

High Performance Concretes and Applications

High Performance Concretes and Applications PDF Author: S. Shah
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN:
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 424

Book Description
Over the last decade, the use of high performance concrete has steadily increased throughout the world, particularly in the construction of tall buildings and bridges. This increased availability has been accompanied by a continuing search for improvements in the mechanical properties, methods of production and durability of this material. Inclusion of examples and case studies drawn from throughout the world. Also includes coverage of both theory and practice; and an explanation of the effect of material properties on the structural design and performance of concrete. --

High-Strength Concrete

High-Strength Concrete PDF Author: Michael A. Caldarone
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1482265842
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 273

Book Description
This practical book from a highly experienced author presents clearly the means and methods for designing, producing and using high-strength concrete. High-strength concrete offers many benefits. Higher compressive strengths allow for a reduction in the cross-sectional dimensions of columns and walls in buildings. Its greater stiffness allows for increasing building heights while controlling sway and occupant comfort. Civil structures such as bridges have benefited from greater span lengths, shallower beam sections, wider girder spacing, and extended service life. Illustrated with real life examples, through documented case histories, High-Strength Concrete will be a valuable resource for contractors, producers, inspection agencies, as well as engineers and researchers.

Lightweight Aggregate Concrete

Lightweight Aggregate Concrete PDF Author: Satish Chandra
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 081551820X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 451

Book Description
In spite of the increasing use and demand for lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC), there is still a lack of adequate explanations to understand the mechanisms responsible for the strength and durability properties of LWAC. This book is written to give an overall picture of LWAC, from the historical background, aggregate production, proportioning and production of concrete, to applications in structures. Physical properties and chemical durability are described in detail. The physical properties include density, strength, shrinkage, and elasticity. Chemical durability includes resistance to acids, chloride ingress, carbonation, and freeze-thaw resistance. Fire resistance is also included, which is seldom considered, but is a very important aspect of the safety of the structure. Microstructure development and its relation to the durability properties of LWAC generally are not highlighted in the literature. The development of bonds, the microstructure with different binder systems, and different types of lightweight aggregates are explained. They show how lightweight aggregate concrete differs from normal weight concrete. The chapters on chloride ingress and freeze-thaw resistance are detailed because of the use of LWAC in offshore construction. The economical aspects of using LWAC are also reviewed. Emphasis is placed on the fact that although the cost of LWAC is high, the total cost of construction has to be considered, including the cost of transport, reinforcement, etc. When these are considered then LWAC becomes cheaper and attractive. The life cycle cost of the concrete is another consideration for calculating long-term savings on maintenance costs.

Compressive Strength of Concrete

Compressive Strength of Concrete PDF Author: Pavel Krivenko
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 1789855675
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 166

Book Description
Concrete made using mineral cements, the raw materials which on earth are practically endless, is known as one of the oldest building materials and during the last decades of the twentieth century has become a dominant building material for general use. At the same time, the requirements of the quality of concrete and its performance properties, in particular compressive strength, durability, economical efficiency, and low negative impact of its manufacture on the environment have not yet been completely met. Bearing these requirements in mind, researchers and engineers worldwide are working on how to satisfy these requirements. This book has been written by researchers and experts in the field and provides the state of the art on recent progress achieved on the properties of concrete, including concrete in which industrial by-products are utilized. The book is dedicated to graduate students, researchers, and practicing engineers in related fields.
