Richard Lee (1590?-1663?) emigrated during or before 1642 from Shropshire, England to York (later Gloucester) County, Virginia. About 1650/1651 he moved to land in Northumberland County, Virginia. Many of the men of subsequent generations served professionally in the United States army, including General Robert E. Lee (1807-1870) before he commanded the Confederate army. Includes descendants and relatives through the seventh generation, living in Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Missouri, North Carolina and elsewhere. Stratford Hall is in Westmoreland County, Virginia.
