Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9811316759
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 376

Book Description
This book investigates the real process of unleashing the power of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) through Open Innovation and strategic choices. It covers the most important aspects of ICT in a nutshell and details the road to the future through business innovation. ICT, of which telecom and IT constitute the core, is currently permeating and transforming every sphere of life, ranging from commerce, manufacturing, education and healthcare, to agriculture, banking, governance, media and entertainment. Today, telecommunication and ICT, in general, are essential to a country’s economic development and competitiveness as recognized both by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. Due to the powerful, disruptive and rapid forces unleashed by ICT tsunami, organisations not only struggle to harness the potential of ICT but can also be overwhelmed by the changes, complexity, competition and regulatory environment it brings up. This book provides a clue to organisations on how to sustain and succeed by leveraging ICT in absence of extensive in-house expertise across the breadth and depth of these areas. The driving theme of the book is about opening up organizational and business models, by presenting an integrated roadmap to a future with ICT, by co-opting, cooperating and competing with other organisations. Constructing the right strategy and building the necessary social capital for open innovation through collaboration with partners, government, academia and users (Quadruple Helix Model) are essential steps in such a process.

Book Description
As competition across the globe continues to intensify at a rapid pace, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are required to adapt effective tools to improve their competitiveness. The experiences of the large sized companies reveal that the alignment between the business and IT strategies in the organization will effectively enhance their competitiveness, which is characterized by the improved operational efficiency and innovativeness. Having acknowledged the significance of the strategic alignment in elevating the competitiveness of large sized business organizations, it is important to investigate whether such approach plays a significant role in improving the competitiveness of SMEs. Specifically, this study examines the effect of strategic alignment on the performance of Saudi industrial SMEs, and the role of organizational cultures in moderating the relationship between strategic alignment and organizational performance. Both fax and web-based survey techniques have been used to collect data from Saudi manufacturing companies. A structural equation model was developed based on Strategic Alignment Model (SAM) of Henderson and Venkatrman (1999) to evaluate the role of strategic alignment on organization performance, and the moderation effect of organizational cultures. With 167 effective responses collected from the business executives of the participating Saudi manufacturing SMEs, the partial least square structural equation model (PLS-SEM) has been used to empirically test the model. The results of this study suggest that the alignment between business and IT strategies significantly improved the performance of Saudi manufacturing SMEs, however, organizational cultures did not play a major role in moderating the relationship between the two constructs. The research findings of this study have two industrial implications. First, since the achievement of proper alignment between business and IT strategies will improve the business performance of Saudi manufacturing SMEs, government institutions are suggested to provide more financial and human capital training support to assist these enterprises to be competent in achieving the state of alignment. Second, Saudi manufacturing SMEs should not put too much emphasis on seeking and developing the most appropriate cultures in their organizations in hope of improving their business performance with the alignment. Rather, more effort should be dedicated to ensure the achievement of strategic alignment in the organization.

Information Communication Technology and Economic Development

Information Communication Technology and Economic Development PDF Author: Tojo Joseph Thatchenkery
Publisher: Edward Elgar Publishing
ISBN: 1845428250
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 245

Book Description
Information Communication Technology and Economic Development provides a quick and broad overview of the Indian ICT sector. With its exhaustive examination of the business management and industrial organisation of the ICT sector, it is a particularly useful tool for any researcher or policy analyst interested in a thorough analysis of the mechanics of the sector and the Indian context within which it operates. Syud Amer Ahmed, Papers in Regional Science India has become a highly visible participant in the information communication technology (ICT) industry. Since the 1990s, it has been one of the fastest growing economies in the world, emerging as the most watched test of global capitalism. The contributors to this volume examine how the ICT-driven development of India appears to have skipped the middle stages of the traditional economic development models and leapfrogged directly to the final stage whereby growth is mostly technologically driven. Information Communication Technology and Economic Development reveals new insights regarding the complex process of globalization. It shows how the generation and circulation of intellectual capital in the US and India in ICT have led to greater productivity in the US while facilitating the economic development of India. Most industrialized nations now see the vast intellectual capital-based services that India provides at extremely competitive rates as key to their own national competitiveness in the global arena. The contributors findings suggest that India s ICT-led growth will accelerate in the next ten years, launching India as a major global economic power next to the US and China. This provocative and timely volume will be a necessary read for students and scholars of international business, public policy, economic development, management and strategy as well as all those interested in the impact of globalization on national and regional economies.
