Book Description
Excerpt from Story of Friedrich Froebel He also showed him the papa and mam ma and the little baby flowers, and how most of these flower families lived in beauti ful homes which men call blossoms. Friedrich, you may be sure, was delighted to know all this; and also to feel that he could be of use to the plants in his father's garden. From this time forth he spent many happy hours in the fresh air and sunshine, working in the garden, and, watching the beautiful flowers unfold. Year after year Friedrich grew taller and stronger until he was old enough to be sent away to school, when a dear old uncle, who was very kind to him, took him to his home. There he lived a number of happy years, studying hard and learning much which was helpful to him in after life. We would, however, add that a faithful translation is not a verbal trans lation. The translator should rather strive to write each sentence as the author would have written it in English. Book Description
Excerpt from The Life of Frederick Froebel: Founder of the Kindergarden Not long before the close of his days, Froebel expressed himself thus to his most intimate friend, Middendorf: "I recognize my life to be a unity through and through; it has been long since any such life has appeared among men; only under unusual circumstances has it been able to work itself out to its completeness." One great whole he conceives it to be with each part joined to the other by a line of inner connection; thus his principle of education was the deep underlying principle of his life, which he drew out of himself and made real in his vocation. Moreover, he holds strongly to the idea of development, the self-unfolding of the human spirit into or toward perfection. The doctrine which he applies to the child is to be applied to his own biography, for that doctrine is at bottom the true movement of his own soul, as it realizes itself in the events of his career. His life will not only illustrate his principle of the unfolding of the child but will be seen to be the very center and source of that principle; from beginning to end it shows a mans own spiritual evolution projecting itself into his educational work. Book Description
Excerpt from Froebel Letters: Edited With Explanatory Notes and Additional Matter And this Froebel enthusiasm is not transient. If you doubt its persistence, look at Frau Luise Froebel, the widow of the Kindergartener. Upwards of forty years have passed since her husband was taken away from her, yet the ardor of her enthusiasm has not cooled in the least. She continues as she was when walking by his side, a living piece of his own self, in whose soul we can recognize and study the soul of. Friedrich F rochel. I have no hesitation in saying that Frau Luise Froe bel is the spiritual creature of Friedrich Froebel. He made her what she is: he implanted in her those remarkable principles and traits of. Character that distinguish her and elevate her above the common crowd. There is in her a depth of perception, a wealth of sentiment, a loving and never withhold ing, never weakening sympathy for all that is good and elevating, - chiefly for such things as concern the development of the good and beautiful in man, such as we know to have characterized Froebel him self. For all which constitutes the real life and genius of Frau Froebel, she is indebted to his teaching and his influence. His genius pervades her as the creative spirit giving life to her soul. Friedrich Froebel's Pedagogics of the Kindergarten

Friedrich Froebel's Pedagogics of the Kindergarten PDF Author: Friedrich Frobel
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9781332055128
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 404

Book Description
Excerpt from Friedrich Froebel's Pedagogics of the Kindergarten: Or, His Ideas Concerning the Play and Playthings of the Child The work here offered to the public is a translation of fifteen of the essays of Froebel collected by Wichard Lange into a volume entitled Die Padagogik des Kindergartens, Gedanken Friedrich Froebel's uber das Spiel und die Spielgegenstande des Kindes, Berlin, 1861. The chief value of the present volume is to be found in the thoroughgoing discussion of the first five gifts. Froebel found an educational value in every phase of the child's play, and in every object that engages its attention. His keen scent discovered in the roundness of the ball, in the facility with which it may be moved on a plane surface, an educative effect on the dawning intellect of the child. It is a symbol of a unity that perpetually asserts itself in whatever variety - i. e., in whatever change of place, extension, or movement - happens to it. "The sphere represents to the child every isolated simple unity - the child gets from it a hint of manifoldness as still abiding in unity" (p. 105). Whether the ball or sphere be large or small, every segment of the surface is like every other, and undistinguishable from the others by shape - "the manifoldness abides in unity." That this is akin to the child's consciousness of self is obvious. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
