Book Description
The management objective for the Nome River is to maintain an abundance of 2,000 Arctic grayling greater than 15 in TL (350 mm FL) in a 40 km index area. This project will estimate abundance and size composition of the Arctic grayling population present in this index area in 2021. Based on the results of this assessment, management of the fishery will be reevaluated as prescribed in the Nome River Arctic Grayling Management Plan.

Stock Assessment of Arctic Grayling in the Niukluk River, 2013
Author: Andrew D. Gryska
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Arctic grayling
Languages : en
Pages : 26
Book Description
A stock assessment was performed for the Arctic grayling Thymallus arcticus population inhabiting a 25-km portion of the Niukluk River near Nome, Alaska. The study was conducted during June 2013 using a mark-recapture experiment to estimate abundance and length composition of the population. This population is periodically assessed to ensure that it is sustained at or above a management-prescribed level of 3,500 fish =350 mm FL, and this population was last assessed during 2005. Using hook-and-line gear, a total of 2,047 fish were captured. Estimated abundance of Arctic grayling =350 mm FL was 11,916 (SE = 2,139), of which 62% of the Arctic grayling population was 375-424 mm FL. No management actions were necessary because the abundance estimate exceeded the management objective and was sufficiently precise.

Book Description
A stock assessment was performed for the Arctic grayling (Thymallus arcticus) population inhabiting a 16.2 km portion of the Snake River near Nome, Alaska. The study was conducted during June 2016 and used mark–recapture techniques to estimate abundance and length composition of the population. This population is periodically assessed to ensure that it is sustained at or above a management-prescribed level of 600 fish ≥350 mm fork length (FL), and this population was last assessed during 2011. Using hook-and-line gear, a total of 255 fish were captured. Estimated abundance of Arctic grayling ≥350 mm FL was 764 (SE = 151), of which 85% of the population was 375–474 mm FL. No management actions were deemed necessary because the abundance estimate exceeded the management objective and was sufficiently precise.
