Inventory Management with Alternative Delivery Times

Inventory Management with Alternative Delivery Times PDF Author: Xiaoying Liang
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319486357
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 110

Book Description
This book develops a modeling framework to analyze the problem of inventory management with alternative delivery times. The general context considered here is that a seller replenishes its inventory in fixed intervals and, between replenishments, allocates the limited inventory to satisfy customers who are both price and delivery-time sensitive. On the demand side, customers have heterogeneous delivery-time requirements and choose either spot or late delivery. This theoretical modeling captures the essence of real-world business practices such as the delivery time market segmentation strategy adopted by automobile dealerships in China and many other similar examples. The book focuses on the seller’s optimal inventory replenishment and demand fulfillment policies, and our results provide managerial insights into the merits of flexible delivery-time options. Similar applications such as the group-buying mechanism are also examined. The main mathematical tool used in theoretical analysis is dynamic programming. This book is written for students, researchers, and practitioners in the areas of operations management and industrial engineering who are interested in understanding the rationale of flexible delivery times and designing successful applications.

Management of Stochastic Demand in Make-to-Stock Manufacturing

Management of Stochastic Demand in Make-to-Stock Manufacturing PDF Author: Rainer Quante
Publisher: Peter Lang
ISBN: 9783631594094
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 138

Book Description
Up to now, demand fulfillment in make-to-stock manufacturing is usually handled by advanced planning systems. Orders are fulfilled on the basis of simple rules or deterministic planning approaches not taking into account demand fluctuations. The consideration of different customer classes as it is often done today requires more sophisticated approaches explicitly considering stochastic influences. This book reviews current literature, presents a framework that addresses revenue management and demand fulfillment at once and introduces new stochastic approaches for demand fulfillment in make-to-stock manufacturing based on the ideas of the revenue management literature.

Book Description
A COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO THE CONCEPTS AND APPLICATIONS OF QUEUING THEORY AND TRAFFIC THEORY Network Traffic Engineering: Stochastic Models and Applications provides an advanced level queuing theory guide for students with a strong mathematical background who are interested in analytic modeling and performance assessment of service system networks, with a focus on communication networks. The text begins with the basics of queuing theory before moving on to more advanced levels. Examples and applications are a key part of the material. The topics covered in the book are derived from cutting-edge research, project development, teaching activity, and discussions on the subject. They include applications of queuing and traffic theory in: Cellular networks Wi-Fi networks Ad-hoc and vehicular networks Congestion control in the Internet The distinguished author seeks to show how insight into practical and real-world problems can be gained by means of quantitative modeling. Perfect for graduate and PhD students of engineering and science in the field of Information and Communication Technologies, including computer, telecommunications, and electrical engineering, computer science, data science, Network Traffic Engineering offers a supremely practical approach, grounded on a solid theoretical foundation, to a rapidly developing field of study and industry.

A First Course in Stochastic Models

A First Course in Stochastic Models PDF Author: Henk C. Tijms
Publisher: John Wiley and Sons
ISBN: 0470864281
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 448

Book Description
The field of applied probability has changed profoundly in the past twenty years. The development of computational methods has greatly contributed to a better understanding of the theory. A First Course in Stochastic Models provides a self-contained introduction to the theory and applications of stochastic models. Emphasis is placed on establishing the theoretical foundations of the subject, thereby providing a framework in which the applications can be understood. Without this solid basis in theory no applications can be solved. Provides an introduction to the use of stochastic models through an integrated presentation of theory, algorithms and applications. Incorporates recent developments in computational probability. Includes a wide range of examples that illustrate the models and make the methods of solution clear. Features an abundance of motivating exercises that help the student learn how to apply the theory. Accessible to anyone with a basic knowledge of probability. A First Course in Stochastic Models is suitable for senior undergraduate and graduate students from computer science, engineering, statistics, operations resear ch, and any other discipline where stochastic modelling takes place. It stands out amongst other textbooks on the subject because of its integrated presentation of theory, algorithms and applications.

Differential Games in Economics and Management Science

Differential Games in Economics and Management Science PDF Author: Engelbert Dockner
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9780521637329
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 398

Book Description
A comprehensive, self-contained survey of the theory and applications of differential games, one of the most commonly used tools for modelling and analysing economics and management problems which are characterised by both multiperiod and strategic decision making. Although no prior knowledge of game theory is required, a basic knowledge of linear algebra, ordinary differential equations, mathematical programming and probability theory is necessary. Part One presents the theory of differential games, starting with the basic concepts of game theory and going on to cover control theoretic models, Markovian equilibria with simultaneous play, differential games with hierarchical play, trigger strategy equilibria, differential games with special structures, and stochastic differential games. Part Two offers applications to capital accumulation games, industrial organization and oligopoly games, marketing, resources and environmental economics.
