Excerpt: ...of the case, and subject to the approval of the poor law commissioners, charge such expenses, either to the common funds of the union, or to any parish or parishes comprised therein; and the district board of any district may, having like regard to the circumstances of the case, and subject to the like approval of the poor law commissioners, charge such expenses, either to the funds of the whole of such district, or on any one or more of the unions and parishes comprised therein. 60. Excerpt: ...1892 Whereas the health of many young persons employed in shops and warehouses is seriously injured by reason of the length of the period of employment: Be rr rnsnsrons ENACTED as follows (q): 1. This act may be cited as " The Shop Hours Act, 1892." 2. This act shall come into operation on the first day of September, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two. 8.--(l) No young person shall be employed in or about a shop for a longer period than seventy-four hours, including meal times, in any one week. (2) No young person shall to the knowledge of his employer be employed in or about a shop having been previously on the same day employed in any factory or workshop, as defined by the Factory and Workshop Act, 1878 (1'), for the number of hours permitted by the said act or for a longer period than will together with the time during which he has been so previously employed complete such number of hours. 4. In every shop in which a young person is employed a notice shall be kept exhibited by the employer in a conspicuous place referring to the provisions of this act and stating the number of hours in the week during which a young person may lawfully be employed in that shop (s). 5. Where any young person is employed in or about a shop contrary to the provisions of this act, the employer shall be liable to a fine not exceeding one pound for each person so employed (1) This act re-enacts and perpetuates, with the new and very important insertion of s. 8 as to inspection, and with a few verbal alterations, the temporary Shop Hours Regulation Act, 1886 (49 6: . 50 Vict. c. 55). If any person to whom any allotment or allotments shall be made, or any guardian, husband, trustees, feoffecs, commit-tees, or attorney, of any infant, feme covert, charity or charities, lunatic, idiot, person or persons beyond the seas, or otherwise incapable of acting respectively, or any tenant in tail or for life, or trustee or trustees for any settlement, or any mortgagee or mortgagees or other creditor in possession, shall neglect or refuse to accept, inclose and fence his, her, or their allotment or allotments, within such time or times as such commissioner or commissioners by any writing as aforesaid, or by his or their award shall order or direct, it shall be lawful for such commissioner or commissioners to cause such allotment or allotments to be inclosed and fenced, and to let the same to any person or persons he or they may think proper, and to receive the rents and profit thereof until the expenses attending the inclosure and fencing thereof are paid and satisfied, or to charge such expenses upon the proprietor or proprietors of the same allotment or allotments; and by any such writing as aforesaid, or by his or their said award, to appoint to whom and at what time or times the same shall he paid, subject to the same mode and with the like powers of recovery thereof as may be provided...
