Book Description
models are based on free flow travel-time, travel-time based on the Bureau of Public Roads (BPR) equation (default parameters) and travel-time based on BPR equation (local parameters from regional transportation network model).Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) data obtained from Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) in the City of Charlotte, North Carolina are used to study the relationship and develop models using regression analysis. The difference in the actual travel-time and estimated travel-time of each route between selected time points (bus-stops) is considered as the delay in bus travel-time.The results obtained can be used to estimate travel-time and quantify the effects of influential road network, bus route and traffic characteristics on travel-time of buses. Upon testing these models on 7 links that have not been included in the modeling process, it was determined that travel-time per mile models are able to estimate travel-time with greater accuracy than the delay in bus travel-time models. That being said the delay in bus travel-time models have been able to quantify the effects of various road network characteristics on travel-time. These findings are very helpful to plan bus routes in the future or alter existing bus routes with more efficient use of traveler's time.Overall, the models developed could be proactively used to quantify the relation between bus travel-time and selected explanatory variables. The outcomes from this thesis could be helpful in identifying suitable countermeasures to improve schedule adherence.

Modeling and Simulation of Intelligent Transportation Systems

Modeling and Simulation of Intelligent Transportation Systems PDF Author: Wael A. Altabey
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 104013209X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 228

Book Description
As transport networks become more congested, there is a growing need to adopt policies that manage demand and make full use of existing assets. Advances in information technology are now such that intelligent transportation systems (ITS) offer real potential to meet this challenge by monitoring current conditions, predicting what might happen in the future, and providing the means to manage transport proactively and on an area-wide basis. Modeling and Simulation of Intelligent Transportation Systems provides engineers, professionals, and researchers an intuitive appreciation for ITS theory, related sensor technologies, and other practical applications, including traffic management, safety, design optimization, and sustainability. Provides the theory and practical applications of Intelligent Transport Theory which will be helpful as highway construction recedes as a sustainable long-term solution. Includes several case studies that illustrate the concepts presented throughout.

Statistical and Econometric Methods for Transportation Data Analysis

Statistical and Econometric Methods for Transportation Data Analysis PDF Author: Simon Washington
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 0429520751
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 496

Book Description
The book's website (with databases and other support materials) can be accessed here. Praise for the Second Edition: The second edition introduces an especially broad set of statistical methods ... As a lecturer in both transportation and marketing research, I find this book an excellent textbook for advanced undergraduate, Master’s and Ph.D. students, covering topics from simple descriptive statistics to complex Bayesian models. ... It is one of the few books that cover an extensive set of statistical methods needed for data analysis in transportation. The book offers a wealth of examples from the transportation field. —The American Statistician Statistical and Econometric Methods for Transportation Data Analysis, Third Edition offers an expansion over the first and second editions in response to the recent methodological advancements in the fields of econometrics and statistics and to provide an increasing range of examples and corresponding data sets. It describes and illustrates some of the statistical and econometric tools commonly used in transportation data analysis. It provides a wide breadth of examples and case studies, covering applications in various aspects of transportation planning, engineering, safety, and economics. Ample analytical rigor is provided in each chapter so that fundamental concepts and principles are clear and numerous references are provided for those seeking additional technical details and applications. New to the Third Edition Updated references and improved examples throughout. New sections on random parameters linear regression and ordered probability models including the hierarchical ordered probit model. A new section on random parameters models with heterogeneity in the means and variances of parameter estimates. Multiple new sections on correlated random parameters and correlated grouped random parameters in probit, logit and hazard-based models. A new section discussing the practical aspects of random parameters model estimation. A new chapter on Latent Class Models. A new chapter on Bivariate and Multivariate Dependent Variable Models. Statistical and Econometric Methods for Transportation Data Analysis, Third Edition can serve as a textbook for advanced undergraduate, Masters, and Ph.D. students in transportation-related disciplines including engineering, economics, urban and regional planning, and sociology. The book also serves as a technical reference for researchers and practitioners wishing to examine and understand a broad range of statistical and econometric tools required to study transportation problems.
