Book Description
The angular momentum independent statistical decay model is often applied using a Monte-Carlo simulation to describe the decay of prefragment nuclei in heavy ion reactions. This paper presents an analytical approach to the decay problem of nuclei with mass number less than 60, which is important for galactic cosmic ray (GCR) studies. This decay problem of nuclei with mass number less than 60 incorporates well-known levels of the lightest nuclei (A less than 11) to improve convergence and accuracy. A sensitivity study of the model level density function is used to determine the impact on mass and charge distributions in nuclear fragmentation. This angular momentum independent statistical decay model also describes the momentum and energy distribution of emitted particles (n, p, d, t, h, and a) from a prefragment nucleus. Statistical Model Calculations for Photo Nuclear Reactions

Statistical Model Calculations for Photo Nuclear Reactions PDF Author: Montecue J. Lowry
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Nuclear physics
Languages : en
Pages : 162

Book Description
The statistical model assumes a statistical distribution of nuclear density levels in the decay of the compound nucleus. The densities of nuclear levels can be described by a standard formula in a region containing many energy levels. This formula can be used to predict the cross-sections for photonuclear reactions within the energy range 0 to 30 MEV. Provided assumptions are made neglecting the coulomb effect, spin, parity, angular momentum, and tertiary and higher order reactions, these predictions can be made by a digital computer and the results plotted on a graph with experimental data for comparison. The digital computer program is used to find the statistical level density formula that most closely approximates the cross-sections obtained experimentally. (Author).

Radiation Detection for Nuclear Physics

Radiation Detection for Nuclear Physics PDF Author: David Gareth Jenkins
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780750314282
Category : Nuclear counters
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
"Radiation detection is key to experimental nuclear physics as well as underpinning a wide range of applications in nuclear decommissioning, homeland security and medical imaging. This book presents the state-of-the-art in radiation detection of light and heavy ions, beta particles, gamma rays and neutrons. The underpinning physics of different detector technologies is presented, and their performance is compared and contrasted. Detector technology likely to be encountered in contemporary international laboratories is also emphasized. There is a strong focus on experimental design and mapping detector technology to the needs of a particular measurement problem. This book will be invaluable to PhD students in experimental nuclear physics and nuclear technology, as well as undergraduate students encountering projects based on radiation detection for the first time. Part of IOP Series in Nuclear Spectroscopy and Nuclear Structure." -- Prové de l'editor.
