A Star Trek: The Next Generation: Time #9: A Time for War, A Time for Peace
Author: Keith R. A. DeCandido
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
ISBN: 0743499972
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 356
Book Description
The shattering conclusion to the nine-book Next Generation series that chronicles the untold adventures of the Enterprise crew between the events depicted in the feature films Star Trek: Insurrection and Star Trek Nemesis! On the cusp of their epic battle with Shinzon, many of Captain Jean-Luc Picard's long-time crew were heading for new assignments and new challenges. Among the changes were William Riker's promotion to captain and his new command, Riker's marriage to Counselor Deanna Troi, and Dr. Beverly Crusher's new career at Starfleet Medical. But the story of what set them on a path away from the Starship Enterprise™ has never been told. UNTIL NOW. Following the scandalous Tezwa affair, the Federation president's resignation forces an election, with the future of the United Federation of Planets to be determined by who emerges victorious from a hotly contested vote. But it is the fate of the entire galaxy that may actually be decided on Qo'noS, as the Federation embassy is seized by terrorists whose actions expose intrigue reaching the highest levels of Klingon government—and it will take all of Ambassador Worf's skills to keep the fragile Federation-Klingon alliance from collapsing. And while this potential intergalactic chaos looms, Commander Riker finds his plans for command and marriage soured by a brutal, high-level inspection of the ship from which the crew may not escape unscathed... The epic miniseries comes to a shocking conclusion—one that will leave the Star Trek universe changed forever!

Star Trek's Philosophy of Peace and Justice
Author: José-Antonio Orosco
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing
ISBN: 1350236829
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 209
Book Description
Countering the dystopic and the apocalyptic, Star Trek's Philosophy of Peace and Justice introduces political philosophical reflections on peace, justice, and non-violence through dramatic plots in the utopian Star Trek Universe. Using key insights from a global array of philosophers, thinkers, and activists, including Martin Luther King Jr., Cesar Chavez, Angela Davis, Martha Nussbaum, Johan Galtung, and Desmond Tutu, José-Antonio Orosco guides readers through different Star Trek episodes, applying key concepts from peace and justice studies. In the Star Trek Universe, seemingly impossible realities, based on peace and justice exist indefinitely in a post-scarcity society marked by economic cooperation. Orosco continues its bold utopian mission and brings new challenges to the field of peace and justice studies that center anti-racism and intersectional theory to encourage the exploration, over conquest, of our own galaxy.

Volume 1, 1900-1939 chronicles the birth of the American century through one world war and to the brink of a second. Not since Leaves of Grass has there been such an un-ironic attempt to give voice to "the rhapsody of a great nation / where so many sing without cease / work without halt / shoulder without shudder / to bring the Feather of Justice to every / bell tower, biome & blade of grass / in Graceful America." Long may Sanders sing our common song, and long may his America "dwell in peace, freedom & equality / out on its spiraling arm / in the Milky Way."

Book Description
Continuing the events detailed in Star Trek: Destiny: With the displacement and devastation wrought by the Borg, can the Federation survive? Fortune has smiled on Lieutenant Jasminder Choudhury, chief of security on the U.S.S Enterprise.™ She has survived. But her homeworld, Deneva, one of the planets targeted in the massive Borg invasion, has not. The entire surface has been wiped clean of everything, killing anyone who did not evacuate and rendering the planet uninhabitable. Choudhury is left to wonder whether her family was one of the displaced. Or are they all gone forever? The Enterprise is just one ship, and Jasminder Choudhury is just one officer, yet her story is being repeated over and over across the galaxy. Hundreds of thousands of displaced persons haunt the space ways, seeking comfort, looking for someplace safe, somewhere, anywhere to find solace. Captain Jean-Luc Picard is ordered to do everything he can to rescue and if need be to recover the lost souls from the Borg invasion. For the first time in generations, citizens of the Federation know want, uncertainty, and fear. Bloodied yet unbowed, the Federation now stands on the edge of a precipice. The captain of the Enterprise finds himself in the unenviable position of wondering whether it is true that those who can win a war well can rarely make a good peace.

Me and Blue
Author: Carolyn Stransky
Publisher: Page Publishing Inc
ISBN: 1662464452
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 271
Book Description
In 2020 the Covid pandemic was happening rapidly, changing everyone's life. Stores closed, there was a shelter in place for a whole year and death filled the air spreading like wildfires on a hot windy day. News ran its course, families were destroyed, healthcare workers at their breaking point. Hell happened while political monarchy surrounded the world. What were we to do? A time for reflection and reevaluation. Only jobs available were of three choices, Amazon, Federal Express and Doordash. Families trapped with each other, forcing love and patience to develop. Parents celebrating their precious moments that were lost in the hustle and bustle of the working world. Time stopped, not knowing what day was coming. Society began to change rapidly, and fear lit up the sky. Prayers lined up asking, “God save me!” We had to look at ourselves in all its chaos through a cracked mirror of the unknown. Personally, I grabbed my laptop to save me. It was my therapy. My mind began to settle with the notion of peace amongst the tragedy we faced. An idea flew along, to find an outlet for all these emotions. A calm summer day I started reading and posting poems of all types, pretty much the steppingstones of my journey through what we call life. I brought out real issues, fun, and fantasy as a place to escape from reality. My creativity got bigger, so I started my own poetry group called Language From The Heart Poetry. During this adventure I met a wonderful human who enjoyed my art of poetry as much as I did. A man known for his own phenomenal works of writing in all forms. Also known as the man with the golden pen. He was intelligent and had brilliant status, I was pleased. Poetry connects people because it is the language, we all have in our hearts. This man and I spoke the same language. The camaraderie of poetry bonded us. An incredible friendship developed, and a working/writing collaboration began. Our work was full of passion. So, I asked him to partner with me on making an art site where we can share literature, music, and storytelling in all forms. He gladly accepted. Thank you to my friend and coauthor Mr. Dost Muhammad Rajper. We realized we were meant to collide in this common journey. Our art combined expressed some of the most brilliant pieces of poetry work I have ever seen. We realized we are better together. The book therefore began its journey to infancy, “Me and Blue”.
