Wheat is the primarily cereal grain produced within the European Union. Due to its high starch content it is the dominating energy feed ingredient in diets for pigs. However, due to its high dietary inclusion level wheat can also supply considerable high amounts of crude protein (CP) and amino acids (AA) to the animal. Wheat co-products of bioethanol production are a valuable source of CP and AA in animal nutrition. Therefore, the objectives of the present thesis were to study the nutritive value of eight recently introduced wheat genotypes and of one liquid wheat co-product of bioethanol production for growing pigs. For this purpose a comprehensive analysis of nutrients in the assay feedstuffs was conducted and standardized ileal digestibility (SID) of CP and AA in growing pigs was determined. There were significant differences in SID of CP and AA between the eight genotypes of wheat. However, digestibility values were lower when compared to literature data, leading to the assumption that data in actual feed tables might result in an overestimation of the protein value of wheat. The liquid wheat co-product is a valuable source of CP, AA and energy in diets for pigs. It is superior to dried bioethanol co-products as it is not exposed to excessive heat treatment during manufacturing resulting in greater digestibility values. In der Europäischen Union ist Weizen die am weitesten verbreitete Getreideart. Aufgrund seines hohen Stärkegehalts wird Weizen in Mastschweinerationen als Energiefuttermittel eingesetzt. Bei hohen Anteilen in der Gesamtration kann Weizen jedoch auch einen erheblichen Beitrag zur Deckung des Rohprotein- (XP) und Aminosäuren (AS)- Bedarfs des Tieres leisten. Nebenprodukte aus der Weizenverarbeitung bei der Bioethanolproduktion sind eine wertvolle Eiweißkomponente in der Tierernährung, dazu zählen Trocken- und Flüssigschlempen. Ziele dieser Arbeit waren die Bestimmung des Futterwerts von 8 aktuell verfügbaren Weizengenotypen sowie eines flüssigen Weizenschlempefutters für Mastschweine. Zu diesem Zweck wurde eine umfangreiche Nährstoffanalyse der Versuchsfuttermittel durchgeführt, sowie die standardisierte praecaecale Verdaulichkeit (pcVQ) von XP und AS bei Mastschweinen untersucht. Es gab signifikante Unterschiede der pcVQ von XP und AS zwischen den 8 Weizengenotypen. Allerdings waren die Verdaulichkeitswerte geringer als in der Literatur angeben, so dass Daten aus aktuellen Futterwerttabellen möglicherweise den Proteinwert von Weizen überschätzen. Das flüssige Weizenschlempefutter stellt eine wertvolle XP-, AS- und Energiequelle für Schweine dar. Es ist Trockenschlempen im Nährwert überlegen, da es keiner intensiven Hitzeeinwirkung ausgesetzt ist und somit höhere Verdaulichkeitswerte aufweist.

As food and animal protein demand increases, black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) meal has gained interest in the past couple of years for use in animal feed as an alternative protein ingredient. Black soldier fly larvae is an attractive protein source; however, it is important to evaluate its amino acid (AA) digestibility and metabolic availability (MA) before incorporation in feed formulation. The global objectives of this thesis were to determine the standardized ileal digestibility (SID) coefficient of AA and MA of methionine using the indicator AA oxidation (IAAO) method from BSFL meal, and to compare the results from the two protein quality methodologies. The SID coefficient of indispensable AA in BSFL meal was found to be above 83%, while the MA of methionine was found to be 53.33%. This finding further confirms that SID coefficient tends to overestimate AA bioavailability and that MA is a more accurate representation of bioavailability.

Triticale promises higher yields of grain at least equal in protein content and superior in biological quality to wheat.Triticale has a higher content of lysine. Lysine content of triticale foods can be improved by supplementation with other materials with rich content such as food legumes. Present evidence suggests that sound, healthy triticale is equal to or superior to wheat in farm animal diets. Since triticale will tolerate environments unsuitable to wheat, itpromises to be a significant addition to world cereal crops for human and animal consumption. Well-defined, universally-accepted standards and methods of chemical and biological evaluation are urgently needed. Si l'objectif est d'optimiser l'utilisation des protéines par les volailles, l'utilisation d'un système d'acides aminés digestibles est probablement supérieure à la quantité totale d'acide aminé (tAA) présente dans le régime. Avec la quantité considérable d'informations présentes sur les valeurs nutritives d'acides aminés (AA) utilisées dans les régimes alimentaires de volailles, l'objectif de cette étude est de prédire la digestibilité d'AA basée sur une analyse proximale via une méta-analyse. Deux modèles ont été testés : 1) Y = digestibilité apparente des AA (AAdig, % diet) ; X = protéine brute (CP) (%) et 2) Y = AAdig (g/kg de DM) ; X = AA totaux analysés (tAA, g/kg de DM) dans lequel l'ordonnée à l'origine du graphique est la perte d'endogène (EL). Une base de données de 49 publications a été divisée en 5 sous-sections 1) céréales (orge, sorgho, blé et maïs), 2) tourteau de soja (SBM), 3) farines de viande et d'os (MBM) 4) La sous-section 1) ainsi que des fèves de faba et de pois pour étudier EL et 5) seulement des fèves de faba et des pois. L'étude et les ingrédients ont été inclus dans le modèle comme effets fixes. Pour les céréales, la prédiction des AAdig par CP est précise (R2 de 0.68 pour Thr et de 0.92 pour Ala). La pente est différente selon le type de céréales (céréale x CP ; P 0.05) pour la majorité des AA sauf pour le maïs qui n'a pas eu de relation significative avec CP (P 0.05). Livestock nutrition is one of the most important issue in animal production both in physiological-economic terms as well as the impact of livestock on the environment. The handbook „Rational livestock nutrition in rural areas” has been funded with support from the European Commission under Erasmus + programme – Cooperation for innovation and good practice. The book has been developed by experts in various fields of agriculture – animal nutrition and feed science, animal husbandry, agronomy and veterinary medicine. The authors of this book, originating from five different countries – Poland, Turkey, Romania, Italy and Hungary by working within the framework of the established Strategic Partnership – Vocational Education and Training have developed a comprehensive compendium aimed at transfer of knowledge, good practice and innovation in the field of agriculture with emphasis on rational nutrition of livestock. The book covers five broad issues of livestock nutrition. Chapter one – „Physiology of Nutrition”, is related to the anatomy and functions of particular organs of the farm animals’ digestive tracts, type of nutrients found in the livestock diets, as well digestion, absorption and metabolism of these compounds.
