Perspectives in Physical Education
Author: Walter P. Kroll
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 1483214109
Category : Health & Fitness
Languages : en
Pages : 388
Book Description
Perspectives in Physical Education presents a summary of some of the important forces influencing the development of graduate study and research at universities; the origins of professional training for teachers of physical education; and the origins of a scientific or quasi-academic discipline of physical education. The book then discusses the first graduate study programs in physical education and the developments in graduate education. The dimensions of a profession; the research productivity in physical education; and the research laboratory in physical education are also considered. The book further tackles the scientific method in perspective; the unscientific problems in the development of a scientific model; and the establishment of priorities in research. People who teach and those who take courses in research methods, scientific foundations, seminars dealing with professional problems and curriculum issues, or independent research will find the text useful.

Pages : 0
Book Description
The purpose of this study is to provide recommendations for Physical Educators in order to make Physical Education (PE) more applicable for lifetime Physical Activity (PA). A qualitative study was performed by distributing a 6 question survey to 57 college students currently enrolled in wellness classes. The survey questions investigated the current and expected PA choices of students, and the impact of PE on these. The survey also collected data about students' motivation for PA, and barriers to PA, and how PE is involved in motivation and preparation for barriers. Curriculum content suggestion was also accepted by participants. There was also an extensive review of literature used to provide support for the conclusions of the researcher. The data found that students saw high applicability for fitness education in PE. Students found that information on health fitness concepts, and how they can achieve personal fitness to be relevant after graduating high school. Fitness concepts should be taught in a variety of contexts and in ways that students can apply across different environments. It is also suggested that PE environments provide safe spaces for students to explore new activities, and are comfortable with failure. Participants also cited more motivation for PA in PE when they knew the purpose of the activity. Explaining to students the health benefits associated with various forms of physical activity could increase motivation and encourage PA outside the classroom.
